This first story sees Nathan, Luke and Gavin nursing their own problems in The Bellwether Club. In a bleak moment they come together, sharing their misfortunes with each other, slowly getting themselves drunk, they decide on a wager.

All these men have earned their money and have things that are precious and irreplaceable and it was these they wager. Their bet, a wager of their hearts. They figure out that perhaps they have not put the effort in to looking for the person they wish to marry. They decide a year as their time limit and make their deal with Gavin bringing Frankie the club owner into the deal and to hold their envelopes.

Frankie is not sure that Nathan has wagered the right item, she is shocked and asks him if he is sure.

The next day sitting in his office Nathan nurses his hangover and finds his day getting worse as he deals with a temporary executive assistant, as Janice has the flu. She doesn’t look like an executive assistant but he has no time to deal further as he resumes his work.

Chloe Russell was suppose to be covering reception but is bumped up stairs instead. She isn’t exactly dressed for the job, so she makes the most of things. The job isn’t all that difficult for her, but the boss was a bit hard to deal with. Chloe gets strange feelings when near him.

The next day Chloe is determined to show she can dress and do the job to the best of her ability. Going in early she wants to report to her boss but she doesn’t see him. It was then she hears a moan and finds her boss ill. She alerts the right people and sets about making cold packs to bring his temperature down.

Ben, Nathan’s friend and doctor comes in and takes over. Now delirious Nathan calls out for Chloe. He relates Chloe to the cold he felt, so is unsettled without her, so Chloe goes with him to keep the patient calm. Ben is not happy about this and the fact that Nathan refuses to go to the hospital. Ben sets up equipment and nurses in Nathan’s bedroom. Nathan became restless each time Chloe moved from his side, so reluctantly Ben set up a bed for Chloe and asked her to stay. Chloe has her Grandmother Grandmillie to get back for. Ben reassured her that he would look after her Grandmillie, but Chloe wanted to ask first. Grandmillie was ok with it but found the situation strange.

Nathan’s illness took a lot out of him. He woke feeling weak and confused. Then he was shocked and annoyed to find a stranger sleeping opposite. After things got cleared up, Nathan wanted to work, but he needed help. Chloe agreed to help work with him at his home.

They both got to know each other more, as new situations arose their relationship seemed to develop throughout the story. Nathan has Luke and Gavin cause him trouble when Chloe heard some information she was not happy with.

A wedding, jet set visit and Grandmillie’s health and Nathan’s relationship with his father all play a part in an up and down relationship.

The characters are well written and the story flows really well. Can’t wait to read the next instalment.

Continues with Book 2 – The All-Star Antes Up.

So this book popped up on the screen on my kindle normally I would just ignore them and not give them a second glance, but I found myself reading the reviews and downloading a sample and I was impressed with what I was reading so thought I would get the book.

Nathan is CEO of his own company but he finds out that the woman he was seeing lied to him by saying she didn’t know who he was when they first met, now drowning his sorrows with some scotch he meets a writer and a quarterback and they all have had the hard luck of finding women who love them for who they are, so they all agree to a wager and give away something that means a lot to them but if by the end of the year they have not found love with the proof of the ring on the finger they must give up what they wrote on that piece of paper.

Chloe Russell is a temp and has been placed at Trainor Electronics, but when a flu bug has hit the staff she is assigned to Nathan Trainor, but on her second day on the job she finds he has now been hit with the flu and he want’s no one but Chloe to take care of him, but with obligations with her grandmother Chloe relents and stays with him but after a few days things get heated and whilst she is enjoying the pay increase she wants a normal life but the lifestyle Nathan is used to is not what she is used to and she says no a lot to him like buying clothes jewellery and staying over.

Will Nathan win this bet or will Chloe finding out about it put a stop to everything?
This was a great story only downside is waiting for the next book which isn’t out til 2016 but I will patiently for it.

I love a good romance book every once in a while (increasingly so actually). There was so much to enjoy in this book from the varied and interesting characters, the amusing dialogue and banter between the two love interests and, of course, the steamy scenes.

Most romance books follow a similar plot structure and I often prefer ones which don’t drag out the inevitable “misunderstanding” or “fall-out” that occurs about two thirds of the way through. Luckily for me this one resolved things quickly, so I liked the pacing and it kept my interest throughout.

Having said that, I do think it was a bit longer than it needed to be and felt like it had run out of steam (in every sense of the word) by the end.
I am pleased to see this is part of a series though and am keen to pick up the second book.
