The Christmas Veto (Festive Fakes)

£4.30

Can fake dating lead to true love?

My name’s Connor Lisowski, and here’s what you need to know about me:

I’ve had a massive crush on my best friend’s older brother since high school.

Everyone thinks I’m straight.

I have two dads but I’m afraid to come out.

I’ve never even been kissed.

And somehow, I’ve been roped into pretending to be Reid’s boyfriend for the holidays. Who’s Reid, you ask? Only the aforementioned best friend’s older brother who never looked at me twice.

Until now.

The Christmas Veto by Keira Andrews is a gay Christmas romance featuring fake boyfriends, a bisexual king in a designer suit, first times, and of course a happy ending. Connor first appears in The Christmas Deal, but this novel can be read as a standalone.

This is a cute fake boyfriend for Christmas story. While it can be read as stand-alone, reading the first two books, especially Seth and Logan’s story will help understanding Connor’s background better.

I love how Connor and Reid are together. Reid is tired being the one always holding up for the family’s company and pleasing his grandmother while secretly working on a different project. He needs Connor’s love and affection to push him into allowing him to desire something for himself, not to dance to his grandmother’s tune.

Connor is in a difficult position, always trying to do harder than necessary as he thinks he owns something to his dads. Reid is giving him space and support to come clean and accept love. I love how Reid is exploring New York with him.

I would have loved to see some more story of these two after the actual ending. There is a gap between the ending and the epilogue and I feel it jumps too much into the future. Adding some more story about Reid and his grandmother would have been good to read. I am not a fan of drama in a Christmas story but there is a bit missing here.

It’s definitely a book to curl up while listening to Christmas music.

This is a super, sweet and spicy, touching and emotional, fake boyfriend’s romance, and I loved it!
I loved catching up with Logan and Seth, Connor’s step dad’s,too!
This can be read as a standalone although, I’d like to recommend reading The Christmas Deal as well.
I received an arc copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

    ~ARC review~

I haven’t read the previous books in this series but I didn’t feel like I was missing any information even without reading them. So can be read as standalone.

Book starts with Reid trying to find a fake boyfriend to get his grandmother off his back, trying to get him to date someone he’s not interested in. In comes Reid’s brother and his best friend Connor.

Connor has harboured a crush on Reid for years, but he’s also been questioning and hiding his sexuality despite having two dads.

We get to read Reid’s and Connor’s relationship building on quite quickly – fake dating turning to real dating.

I loves how similar Reid and Connor were underneath the surface-level stuff. I also loved how Reid cherished Connor, and how Connor broke out of his shell with Reid by his side.

    Lovely, heartwarming holiday read!

This story starts off with Reid in a predicament, he needs to find his own date for family business events that will keep his grandmother from meddling. She is of high social status so has Reid’s life mapped out for him. Connor is best friends with Reid’s brother and is quickly forced in to the role as fake boyfriend. Connor has never voiced his sexual preferences out loud, despite having two dads, he has several reasons. He has also never told anybody that he has had a major crush on Reid since he was a teenager. This is quite a predictable story, but to give credit, I really enjoyed it. Both MC’s were really likeable and they hit it off. I loved how sweet and gentle Reid was with Connor and their relationship just oozed trust and affection. It is mildly steamy, and the bonus scene would have been amazing if it was in the original book. There is a slightly angsty undercurrent from both men having family issues but nothing between themselves. The epilogue jumps 5 years and did creep up on me unexpectedly; we hadn’t had love declarations before, despite both knowing they were in love and it would have finished the Christmas day in a special way.  To hear them say it to each other in the epilogue dulled the sentiment. The epilogue did give us the finishing touches and we got to see another Christmas with a good idea of how they had grown together and big changes that had happened. It is a Christmas novel, and I did feel festive whilst reading it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
