The book offers good tips on how to use targeted mails to up the rate of replies and engage in sales conversations. Like all good methods cold email requires consistency, discipline and measuring results. Reccomended if you are in sales and would benefit of writing short, concise and punchy messages that are more difficult to ignore.

Cold calling has been universally vilified during the last 5-10 years. No one likes doing it and no one like receiving it. But the harsh reality is that sometimes you have to reach out to people you don’t know to explore whether they want to buy what you have to offer. This book recognises and accepts this and therefore gives you a hybrid and effective approach to achieving introductory meetings. The book is well written, simple and clear in its instructions. It gives step by step instructions to support its recommended processes. I can’t recommend it enough!

At the end of chapter two, the authors encourage the reader to help them by leaving a review.

The problem is, the first two chapters (24% of the book, according to Kindle) is nothing but gushing about how awesome cold emailing is, and how you can become rich and famous by doing it. Perhaps chapter three is when they get to the substance? Who knows.

I’ll come back and update when I’m rich and famous I guess.

Update: Chapter three was a bit better, but chapter four was about how you have to buy multiple domain and specialised services to “warm them up” (they give you homework to do this), because while you’re absolutely not spamming, everyone can make mistakes when starting out, and sending out 3,000 highly personalised emails with well researched offers out “on a whim” can inexplicably get your email marked as “spam”.

Let me be clear: the assertion of this not being spam, the reference to beginner’s mistakes being mistaken for spam, 3,000 email on a whim: these are all literally from the text, within a few pages.

To qualify who “everyone” is and how long “getting started” takes, the authors helpfully brag about how many domains their agency have. To spell it out: there are no “beginners mistakes”, this how it works. It’s just spamming. More effective spam, perhaps? But spam.

It’s unclear to me if the authors are genuinely blind to what they’re doing, or just cynical, and not sure which I think is the better answer.

My one takeaway: Have a specific offer, as opposed to a general one, when approaching a cold target. That’s worth the $1 I paid, so not requesting a refund.

The rest of this book is an apologetic for spam.

What I loved the most is showing step by step how make successfull cold email campaigns

Look if you are someone in the agency niche or just someone who wants to book more meetings for their company.

This is the book for you.

The part of how to build a good sales team and look after your employees is one that I didn’t personally expect myself

So, these guys contrast cold email to cold calling. The existence of sales letters, a tool up to 20x more effective than email if done correctly, is not mentioned.

They also have the letter to proposal ratio in the exact reverse of what is really best for you and the client. They advise sending a short email, booking a diagnostics call, and then writing a big proposal. A better approach is to write a long sales letter or email and either no proposal (get everything sorted via conversation) or a very brief proposal.

Their approach is just the generic approach everybody uses these days. What I’m advising is what the real great marketers through history have proven is best.
