This is a brilliant book to share with a class. The way it is written makes it really enjoyable and ready to read out loud and add your own expression and voices. The diary meets letter format does make each chapter quite long though so works to break it up into manageable chunks. The friendships and growing up themes are delicately sneaked in so can be discussed or glossed of as needed. I’d say year three (7 to 8 years old) and upwards as appropriate reading are. Year three age four love it as a shared class reader. Year five and six found it great as an independent reader choice. Brilliant!

Son (7) absolutely loved this book. I thought he would as he loves Space Band by Tom Fletcher, so thought I’d try him with this one. Any 7+yr olds who struggle with reading it themselves, would still definitely like having it read to them before bedtimes! Exciting, introduction to the idea of friends being there for each other etc. Lovely descriptive writing fires up the imagination!
