The Divine Dance: The Trinity And Your Transformation

£9.10£9.50 (-4%)

The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity.

The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won’t ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God?

In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance – a Divine Dance – that we are invited to join in.

An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

I have given this Richard Rohr book to several people as a much appreciated gift. I discovered the title on one of his YouTube talks. I cannot speak warmly enough about this lovely man and his introduction to spiritual practices that cross all borders. Great learning at the service of wisdom at its simplest. Tradition with a big T, personal spiritual experience and scriptural inspiration. WOW!

This is possibly Richard Rohr’s best and most accessible book. It is up to date with his thinking yet has all the depth of wisdom, experience and quotations that we expect. I am only 25% into the book, but will be reading again and again as there is so much that is worth pondering and absorbing. If you are prepared to be challenged in your view on life, the universe and everything, then get this book. If you think he is heretical, get it anyway as there is so much richness here, you should find something of value.
The publisher (Kindle edition) has let themselves down with terrible or non existent proofreading, which is a minor distraction. I’ve informed Amazon of those I’ve found so hopefully an improved version will become available.

If only we dare not resist Richard’s message and thereby God’s love, what a transformed world (heaven) we’d live in

Richard Roth is always good value – but here he has excelled even his own insightful and mind-stretching standard. This portrayal of the Trinity as being the cosmic dance of love and inclusiveness in which we are incorporated into the flow of that community is a complete reversal of the black and white theology of my Presbyterian upbringing and the conservative evangelical practice of my adulthood. It is, however, in total accord with my more mature pondering of the nature of God and His love for His cosmic Creation. Learning to see Jesus of Nazareth and the bodily manifestation of the Cosmic Christ has been helpful and that the Creation in its fullness is also incarnational has been mind-blowing. Thank you Richard – once again – for giving me more to ponder on, preach on and inform the Quiet Days I lead.

I was recommended this by a friend, and thought I’d pick it up for some summer reading. On the positive side, the style is easy to read, and there are some interesting thoughts to reflect on- particularly the idea of the Trinity as a dance. These ideas do tend to get bogged down in some other digressions, and particularly in what I’d consider some very ropey sweeping theological statements. For example, the author clearly rejects the sufficiency of Jesus which is really a subject for another book, and just undermines any ideas about the Trinity. Similarly, there are what appear to be a few backhanded swipes aimed at denominations that the author disagrees with. In actual discussions of the Trinity, there seems in my perception to be a tendency towards “Little Gods” prosperity theology- the idea that we can almost be a part of the Trinity. This is rooted in the author’s assertion that the icon on the cover originally had a mirror attached so the viewer could be part of the picture with Father, Spirit and Son. A cursory historical investigation doesn’t yield any real evidence for this, nor for any precedents.

In conclusion, some good ideas but a lot of confusion from which to pick them!

Really good book about a difficult subject, plenty to think about!

I found this book difficult to fully appreciate. The style was one where Richard is writing as though he was talking to a crowd. As a physicists I would like themes developed more. There is certainly much room for thought; I would have liked to be ‘lead by the hand’ more. At the end I found myself asking more questions rather than getting guided answers, perhaps that is a very good thing! Thank you for making me think more about my Catholic faith.

I am not able to read many Christian authors, but Richard Rohr is truly one of the few who can spark deep insight in me. A most enlightening read. My view is based on a reverent attitude to Christianity reverently but not based on full engagement with the faith. Along with Richard Rohr’s The Universal Christ, this book has been an immense source of inspiration and contemplation in times of worry and joy alike. It has radically transformed my appreciation of the Christian faith, the mystics, and of the dynamic interplay at the heart of all people and things. Dare we join the timeless Dance?
