This is the cookbook for people who love good food, but don’t have time to spend hours in the kitchen. The recipes are all triple-tested, with simple, straightforward instructions and easy-to-find ingredients.
The book is divided into two parts, Everyday Food and Weekend Food. The first part is full of delicious dinners that you can whip up after work – chapters include ‘Easy Suppers’ – meals you can make in 20 minutes, ‘Easy Low-Fat Meals’, ‘Easy Standby’, ‘Easy Puds’ and ‘Easy Family Food’. The second part offers quick recipes that are a little more indulgent and includes ‘Easy Classics’, ‘Easy Lunches’, ‘Easy Snacks’, ‘Easy Entertaining’ and ‘Easy Baking’.
Illustrated with full-colour recipe photography and with helpful tips on preparing food, freezing leftovers and baking techniques, this is an essential cookbook for busy people.

I made a promise to myself: I would cut down on ready meals as much as possible. No longer would I allow E number infested, plastic wrapped travesties to touch my lips.
Now, there were problems with that: I didn’t know how to cook even the most basic of meals and I had the perception that cooking was a waste of my time. Real Food for Busy People seemed to suit my circumstances, so I gave it a shot.
As mentioned in other reviews, the food photography in this book is vivid, well printed, and presented in such a way that almost every dish looks appealing. Verdant green beans, craters of burnt cheese, succulent meats. The presentation made me want to get stuck in right away.
The book is divided into logical sections: every day food for when you only have 20 minutes or so to prepare a meal, weekend food for when you have a little more time and the inclination to try something more complex, and their attendant snacks and desserts.
My first meals were exclusively from the 20 minute section. The meals frequently have ingredients in common, so it’s easy to buy standbys to suit several recipes. This is a big plus point for me, as I despise shopping. I found cooking quite difficult at first, but the simple, clear instructions in the book encouraged me and I’ve grown in confidence with each successful meal. I’ve yet to have a true dud and many of the recipes lend themselves to a degree of improvisation.
The only (minor) criticisms of the book I have are:
I wish it was longer!
There aren’t a great deal of vegetarian recipes, though there are a few.
Highly recommended as a gift for the cook-shy person in your life.

I bought this for my daughter who is a busy working Mum of two. She wanted quick easy different recipes with just a few ingredients and this has fitted the bill perfectly. I have yet to sample her offerings!

The recipes are quite simple to follow and pictures and clear instructions are included. My wife has made some of our family dinners too, so this is a real winner in our house. This is the perfect gift for my youngest daughjter who is a non-cook and is soon to be headed of to university.

Lovely recipes and easy to follow instructions. Liked the common sense of this book and the useful tips to reduce preparation time, and also there weren’t any long lists of ingredients.. A good recipe book.

I don`t cook ! I have an idea of what goes on in the kitchen, but it really is a mystical dark art to me. But I need to know & this might just make me into a passable simple cook, or someone who can put a basic meal together without giving the family food poisoning.
Have made two meals from this book now, to my wife & family`s great surprise & amusement & we`re still alive & haven`t had to bother A&E, & they were actually presentable & tasty, would we ever believe it ? So something must have gone right.
The instructions are easy to follow & if I can follow them, then the most «non-cook» can – so, yes highly recommend this
