The Family Fairies
£8.50
This magical rhyming storybook follows a special couple on their journey for a forever family through adoption.
The phrase “Family Fairies” imaginatively refers to social workers and foster carers and the book helps adopted children to understand the role these people play in making dreams come true by bringing families together in this way.
It covers the how, not the why, and gently references key stages of the adoption process in a positive and child focused way.

Anyone going through the adoption process or has been through it and is trying to think of a way to explain it to your children then this is a must read. Family Fairies, what a lovely way to explain those who helped them make their family complete. It’s in simple language that a child can understand and at the same time sharing the family’s wonderful journey with me. I have to admit it made me cry. Simply brilliant, I loved it.

Lovely book, so well written and surprised even me at the end when it makes it clear the book is about the little one being read to. Made me super emotional. Gorgeous.

I absolutely love this book and I feel it is a must buy for adopters. As a Social Worker and prospective Adopter, I loved this was written by an Adopter and captured our future child’s journey amazingly. It is beautifully written, colourful and I love the family fairy concept! Thanks, I cant wait to read this to our future little one.

Excellent book. This book is now with a forever family and so has been replaced in case the story matches another child. Warning I did cry lots when I heard forever dad reading this for the little one.

Whilst not having direct Adoption experience myself, I am a dedicated family man and am passionate about parents – in all types of family unit – doing everything in their power to bond strongly with their children.
I admire this charming and deeply engaging book for the way it takes a highly complex adult process and gives adoptive parents an extremely user-friendly way to explain how they can take away a child’s potential confusion and negative feelings of “being different”.
And what these days we adults might call “the big reveal” is done so appropriately and powerfully with the words ” – – – all about YOU !” When you buy and read this to your adopted children, I’m pretty sure you’ll see what I mean. It’s simply a “must”.

I have bought many adoption books for my children to help with them understanding their journey to us through adoption. There seem to be a lot out there but none quite fit for us. Many have used religion or storylines we haven’t felt able to use. But this beautiful book ticks all the boxes. The language is lovely. The illustrations are beautiful. Highly recommended!!

A really useful introduction and insight for my young daughter about how some families come to be. I don’t necessarily use all the wording – make my own interpretation up as some of it is a bit flowery. But does a good job being positive about adoption/fostering.

As the adoptive parents of two beautiful young children, we have found very few books that approach adoption in such a sweet and magical way. One of the greatest parts about The Family Fairies is that it’s written in a way that’s not too specific, so when you read it to your children you can adapt it to fit your own personal circumstances. We celebrate adoption in our family and we tell our magnificent children every day that we feel like the luckiest mummy and daddy in the world, that becoming their parents was our greatest wish come true. It’s so exciting to find a book that reflects how we feel as a family. I hope there’s more to come from Rosemary Lucas, we certainly love this one!
