£2.80

His last challenge: live long enough to save the lives of those he loves.

Cold-blooded killer JimBone Wheeler blames Tom McMurtrie for putting him on death row. He once vowed that he’d bring “a reckoning” on Tom and everyone the southern lawyer holds dear. When Wheeler escapes from prison, he aims to fulfill his promise. Victim by victim, he’s getting closer to his ultimate target. But for Tom, who’s dying of cancer, the role of savior and protector is a struggle that is becoming more desperate by the hour.

As the body count mounts, Tom, his partner, Rick Drake, and his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, brace for a confrontation like nothing they have ever faced before. This battle will be waged not in a courthouse but on the streets and fields of north Alabama. With all those he loves at risk, Tom must save his family, his friends, and his legacy from a killer whose hunger for retribution knows no bounds.

Now, as time ticks down and fate and vengeance close in, who will survive Wheeler’s final reckoning?

I have enjoyed this series and have raced through the books.
The series would have been 5 star (and more), however for me the sex and bad language spoiled the stories. The addition of this (particularly I felt from a male author) was totally unnecessary as the storylines were excellent and the profanity, for me took some off the shine off the storyline and did not add anything to them.

I’ve really enjoyed the series and this final fourth book certainly provides an exciting read. It’s cleverly written, with plenty of cliff hangers. The characters respond true to type throughout and I can’t wait to start the new series with Bo. Thoroughly recommended.

A hood wrap up to the series with most lose ends tied up. Old fashioned shoot out gets the baddy in the end!

This is the final book in the four book Professor series and assuming you have read the others, please allow me to save you the expense and time of working your way through this deeply disappointing finale. As you will know the opening book was an absolute cracker and well deserved the praise it received, the second was slightly less compelling the third just about okay, but, this is a real slog for absolutely no benefit except the authors bank account. This is writing by numbers and includes so much cancer related misery that you need a strong disposition to carry on and to cap it all most of the illness sections could have been removed as they were purely self indulgence by the author, more for his benefit than ours. This is all about writing by numbers with none of the court room drama of the previous books, it is completely predictable, just a litany of (not very interesting) death and destruction all leading to the final outcome where the villain gets his just deserts, but, believe me when I tell you it just is not worth the time from our very short lives. I give myself a pat on the back for even finishing this poor excuse for a thriller and I doubt I shall be reading any more of this authors work. You have been warned.

What a thrilling ride The Final Reckoning turned out to be. I’ve enjoyed all four books in the McMurtrie and Drake, and read them back to back. The author has created characters that you come to love and root for. There is so much tension in this book I almost forgot to breathe as Tom, his partner, Rick Drake, and his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, brace for a confrontation with JimBone Wheeler. The Final Reckoning brings all the loose ends from the previous books to a satisfying and dramatic conclusion. I admit I found the conclusion very sad but fitting. I would recommend you read the books in order rather than a standalone to enjoy the full benefit of these books.

Great book, but I think enhanced if you have read prior books in the series.
They’re great in themselves, good story lines, but very much flesh out the characters and makes you invest.

I have read all Robert Bailey’s books. Not in order. So I got to enjoy No Haynes before the Professor, McMurtirie. When I started this book I found it very hard to read. JimBone and Manny very accomplished assassins. The people they were after had largely become favourites with their families in great danger. So I was prepared to give this book 4 stars. I found it difficult not knowing who would be killed next. It meant I did some late night reading. However the story is well written and I was happy with the ending, as I felt it would end as it did not not sure how it would get there.
