He plays football around the clock – at the park, on the way to school, at lunchtimes and even in his bedroom until his mum tells him off.
But Charlie has a problem: he can’t run very far. He has plenty of skill but his poorly lungs stop him from sprinting.
And as an 11-year-old boy planning to become the Golden Boot winner at the World Cup, that’s an issue.
Then one day a freak accident presents Charlie with a unique goal-scoring gift – it means he can’t miss.
But can Charlie convince his local team Hall Park to give him the chance and use his new skill to deadly effect?
Or will the nasty bullies from his school keep him stuck on the sidelines?

The book is well-written and engaging, and it is sure to inspire young readers who have dreams of their own. The characters are relatable and the plot is exciting, making this a perfect book for children ages 7-13.

Our football mad eight yr old grandson is enjoying this book nightly. Sometimes falling off to sleep during grandpa’s reading. Good issues to talk about . Some reading done by himself but it’s a book which requires reading stamina.

A must read for all future football stars :). My 9 (almost 10) year old really enjoys it and so do I 😉 We read a book together before bedtime. The book is not just about football but also about not letting bullies stop you from achieving your dreams, positivity and hard work (if you want to be good at sth. you have to practice). We are already on the second book in the series! If your son/daughter plays football – it’s a must. Especially if they are not too kin on reading. This book should really make them want to read more as it’s something they can excited about and see themselves in it. Oh, and it’s got a little bit of magic in it too 🙂

I didn’t read this book myself but I bought it for my seven-year-old son. To give some background he dislikes reading and whenever he has reading to do he counts the pages and keeps asking if his time is up so he can stop. I’ve been trying to find him something that he genuinely enjoys so that reading is no longer a chore. I want him to discover the joy of reading and the pleasure of losing yourself in a good book. He loves football so after a bit of research I decided to give this book a go. This book seems to have done exactly what I hoped it would. He has genuinely enjoyed it. I am just about to order the second book in the series for him.

The book seemed to get my grandson interested

I have been searching high and low for a well written football book. There are quite a few football books for young children but I’ve found them to be so badly written and not something that I’ve taken great pleasure in readin to my children. This is different; we were all captivated in the first chapter and that, I think, has a lot to do with the quality of the writing style. We also loved the fact that the hero of the story has his own health battles but in spite of these he is determined to play his favourite sport. We have just come to the end of the book and have immediately ordered the next in the series. We have recommended the book to our friends, who were also keen to find something just a little bit (a lot!) better than everything else that is out there. My daughter, aged 8, loved it just as much as her football crazy brother, aged 6. Please write more Martin, we can’t get to the end of the next one without buying the next one in the series!! Thank you for this amazing book.
