A body washes up on the deserted coastline of America’s most exclusive holiday retreat. But it’s no open-and-shut case of suicide. The death of Robert McAra is just the first piece of the jigsaw in an extraordinary plot that will shake the very foundations of international security.
For McAra was a man who knew too much. As ghostwriter to one of the most controversial men on the planet – Britain’s former prime minister, holed up in a remote ocean-front house to finish his memoirs – he stumbled across secrets which cost him his life.
When a new ghostwriter is sent out to rescue the project it could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Or the start of a deadly assignment propelled by deception and intrigue – from which there will be no escape . . .
‘Brilliantly persuasive, right up to the last page of its astonishing and unpredictable conclusion’ Economist
‘Truly thrilling’ Sunday Times

The author leaves us in no doubt which prime minister he is referring to. A cracking read that if an ounce of the story were true would be terrifying. A clever twist at the end made me think…i wonder if.

Plot crafted by a master, gripping from start to finish. Wonderful characterisations. A book you wish you hadn’t read so you could read it again.

Gripping from the very start. A real page turner that I could hardly put down. Lots of twists and turns and recommended

I loved the unusual narrator; using a ghost writer as the centre of the story is a great idea. I did think some of his choices for action stretched credibility but the pace and ingenuity swoop one into suspension of disbelief. Maybe not his best but anything by this writer is a very good read and the relationship to recent political history is intriguing ( and believable- oh dear!)
by Sue Breedon
I enjoyed how the narrative swept along and the twist in the ending.
