£0.90
Set against the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness, The Great Alone is a daring, beautiful, stay-up-all-night story about love and loss, from the bestselling author of The Four Winds, Kristin Hannah.
The New York Times number one bestseller.
A woman has to be tough as steel up here. You can’t count on anyone to save you and your children. You have to be willing to save yourselves.
Thirteen-year-old Leni is coming of age in a tumultuous time. Caught in the riptide of her parents’ passionate, stormy relationship, she dares to hope that Alaska will lead to a better future for her family, and a place to belong. Her mother, Cora, will do anything and go anywhere for the man she loves, even if it means following him into the unknown.
As Leni grows up in the shadow of her parents’ increasingly volatile marriage, she meets Matthew. And Matthew – thoughtful, kind, brave – makes her believe in the possibility of a better life . . .
With her trademark combination of elegant prose and deeply drawn characters, Kristin Hannah celebrates the remarkable and enduring strength of women.
‘A rich, compelling novel of love, sacrifice and survival, as epic as the Alaskan landscape it so vividly describes’ – Kate Morton, author of The House at Riverton
‘A masterclass’ – Karen Swan, author of The Spanish Promise.

This was such a good book. I devoured it in two days. One of those books that you carry around with you and read whenever you have a spare moment. Loved it!

I just loved this book so much, not read anything for a long time that has had a real impact on me. The writing is amazing, and the story is just beautiful. Hard at times but beautiful. Thank you, Kristin.

I loved the descriptions of the bleak harsh beautiful landscapes. The characters were believable and moved me to tears at times . I dropped a star because in some places it was repetitive but that didn’t distract me from reading such a lovely heart rendering story.

Wonderful read. Brilliant descriptions of the Alaskan scenery, capturing the seasons , and contrasts such as beauty and wild brutality there really skilfully. The story was gripping and totally absorbing. I am so glad there was a relatively happy ending after much anguish and heartbreak. This is the second book I have read by Kristin Hannah and I am most impressed by her writing.

What a read, I couldn’t put it down in the end and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to find out about life, good and bad, in the wilds.
