I’ll cut to the chase. I didn’t love it. The narrative is split between four women, with one far more interesting than the others. I don’t have a problem with multiple perspectives, hell, I do it in my own books. But I feel this story would have benefitted with two perspectives, Joni and Liz, who were much more interesting than Helena and Maggie.
Sticking with the prose for a moment, the author tends to overuse certain phrases, as well as exclamation marks which was quite jarring.
As for the story, it was decent, but I never felt a lot of tension. Nothing really surprised me, and there is a plot device that felt quite contrived. Having said that, there were certainly moments in this book where I’d be reading and think “just one more chapter,” so the pacing really worked for me.
Overall, I’d suggest this is a perfectly decent read, but it ultimately fell flat for me.
3/5 stars ????

Four female friends take on a trek in Norway. Inevitably, this involves a searching journey through their relationships with each other as much as anything else and the characters are well drawn, although perhaps a little one dimensional at times. Friendships falter and are then re-cemented.
There is a crime plot alongside this narrative which, when you look closely, is a little flawed by being far fetched and unlikely – no spoilers; I’ll leave you to work that out – a bit Famous Fivesy.
However, there are a number of other characters in the story and few seem to be really who they initially appear to be. Who to trust and who not? That is where the bulk of the twists lie: each chapter is left on something of a cliffhanger – sometimes quite literally, and this makes it a addictive read.

Lots of action, everyone has a secret so it was fun when everything came out! Kept me interested all way through. Loved it !

Great read but having now read a few from this author, I think that perhaps she has found a formula which works and is revisiting it? Diverse set of characters and a great plot.

I would normally do a little ‘about the book’ here but I don’t want to butcher what this one is about, and I think going into it knowing very little boosted my experience, so I’m just going to go straight into the review.
Ok, this book is incredible. I don’t read many thrillers/horrors anymore because of my anxiety and psychosis, but I love this one. From about a third of the way in, things got intense and I was on the edge of my seat. At 55% of the way in I actually had to take a break bc the book was stressing me out. And that being gripped ran right until the last pages. Brilliant.
Although the characters were all flawed in their own ways, I found them all super likeable, which I think explains my stress when they were in danger – like ‘noo pls don’t hurt my babies’ !! Honestly, the character development was excellent, and I couldn’t have asked for better.
I saw another review say, regarding the plot, ‘tbh it was plotting’ and honestly I think that sums it up perfectly. There was never a dull moment in this book. I loved every second of it.
Thank you for getting me back into thrillers, @lucyclarke_author, I’m enjoying being back.

Ridiculous scenario- four city-dwelling women with no experience of hiking abandon all common-sense and head off to deepest Norway for a four-day trek through forests, rivers and over mountains, camping in tents overnight. Putting that aside, this is one of those lost in the wilderness stories where nature throws every possible danger at the hapless quartet and shadowy locals who may or may not be malevolent, keep emerging from the scenery. Along the way the women experience trips, falls, cuts, bruises, soakings and a near-drowning. They lose stuff and at times, each other but in true Famous Five fashion they mange to uncover a crime gang. The most astonishing thing is that any of them emerge unscathed. Impossible to take seriously IMO. This is a mildly diverting read.

This book is very slow to get going and the second half is better than the first. It has a decent ending but I did find myself getting bored with some of the detail, it definitely felt like the writer was padding out the story with unnecessary stuff. It also jumps around in time without clear signposting which I found confusing until I realised what was going on. Overall, not a bad book but it didn’t make me want to read any of this author’s other books.
