As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can’t risk losing this job – not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe . . .

It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything….

That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs. Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe.

Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It’s simply a question of how far I’m willing to go….

An unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train will be completely hooked!

Was I ever going to give the follow-up to one of my favourite books this year less than five stars? Probably not. Especially because I really can’t decide which one I liked more! This book has heavily cemented Freida as one of my favourite Authors though and probably my favourite thriller Author (but I need to get around to reading all the rest of her books before I make that judgement).

Millie’s character, The Housemaid, is so utterly absorbing and you really don’t know what direction her thoughts and actions are going to go in, but you’re always rooting for her. I guessed the twist before part two as I felt it was somewhat similar to the twist in the first book, but that didn’t make me enjoy it any less. There is something about Freida’s writing which just makes it easy to fly through and I just loved it so much.

I’m so glad we got a follow-up and that we’re getting a third book next year!! I’m so excited to read it and many more of this Author’s books.

I really enjoyed this one, it’s really well written and I love Millie’s character, however, it was pretty similar to the first book in so many ways. If you’re going to write a series where the main character is the same in every book, then the stories have to be completely different. But like I said, I still enjoyed it, these books are quite lighthearted for a thriller so they make for quite easy reading. I’ll still be reading the next in the series when it’s released.

WOW The Housemaid’s Secret (sequel to book 1) by Freida McFadden was an amazing fast paced psychological thriller. Freida has excelled herself yet again as with her former book The Housemaid which was also an amazing read.

Millie is now Housemaid to the Garrick family who have no children but are trying hard to conceive and to Millie’s relief do not probe into her background. Mr. Garrick is very wealthy and they live in a stunning penthouse apartment.

All is not what it appears to be as Millie will soon find out as she disobeys an instruction by Mr. Garrick to not enter Mrs. Garrick’s bedroom as she is very poorly. Millie has never been one to adhere to the rules especially when she hears Mrs. Garrick’s cries and she demands for her to open the door to see if she can help her.

Millie is studying to become a social worker and helping people in distress or hardship is her forte. The only thing worrying her is her past crime and incarceration will come back to bite her in the forseeable.

I love the synopsis of the explanation of one of the main character’s background and how they got to the point of no return. A synopsis also occured in the first thriller, the Housemaid.

Just when you figure out who done it, Frieda always has a way of the ultimate surprising finale.

I have now found another amazing author and I will definitely be reading more books by her.

Having read The Housemaid with its amazing twist in the story this was a great follow up. Looking forward to reading the next when it’s released.

I absolutely love the detailed yet fast paced tone of this series. After devouring the housemaid in one day I promptly downloaded the housemaids secret… to be honest I wasn’t expecting it to be as good but I haven’t got any work done or spoken to my family since picking it up. I have about 20 pages left and I’m savouring it for tonight! If you loved the first book you’re going to really enjoy this one! Also…can we have a spin off for Enzo please! Would love to hear more in his own words. Yes I have a crush on a fictional character…don’t judge me! Going to be sad when it ends…the next book can’t come any sooner!

Another fast paced and addictive read from McFadden!

This book takes place several years after The Housemaid so you can actually read this one without reading the first (although I highly recommend you read that one too because it was amazing!)

We still follow the same FMC, Millie, who is an excellent character! She is likeable and relatable and the poor lass seems to have the worst luck. All she wants is a peaceful life, but somehow she keeps getting employed by psychopaths!

The storyline was really easy to follow. There were lots of twists and turns. Some that I guessed and some that I didn’t, but plenty enough to keep you on your toes.

As a psychology (geek) student, I love that McFadden includes case studies and psychological theories into her novels. In this book she introduces the bystander effect, which is a really fascinating theory (definitely worth looking up if you have the time!) This was brought into the storyline to help us understand Millie’s thought process and helps us really engage with her character and her actions.
    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall, an enjoyable and entertaining thriller that I couldn’t (and didn’t!) put down.
4 stars instead of 5, just because I didn’t love it as much as The Housemaid.
    Highly recommend!
