The Invisible Leash: A Story Celebrating Love After the Loss of a Pet: 3 (The Invisible String)

£7.60

Using the same simple but effective bonding concept from The Invisible String, which has been used for healing countless readers living with grief, The Invisible Leash illustrates the spiritual connection pet owners have with their animals.

After Zach’s dog, Jojo, dies, his friend Emily tries to comfort him with the “best news ever”: an invisible leash around our hearts connects everyone to their pets no matter where they are, on this Earth or somewhere beyond –maybe they are even near right now. Zach is skeptical, saying he only believes in what he can see, but Emily lets him find his own way to eventually come to feel the comforting tug of the Invisible Leash.

Accompanied by emotive and uplifting art by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff, Patrice Karst’s gentle story celebrates the love, warmth, and joy that animals give us in this life and beyond.

My girls grandparents had recently had to have their dog put down and this book was perfect for helping them understand she was gone but will always be with you and not forgotten.

I was hoping this book would offer a little more to soothe my sons mind. It wasnt great to be honest. Could have been a much more inspirational read

We just lost one of our beautiful cats, quite suddenly, so I wanted something to help our children (4 and 7) with the grieving process.

The reviews of this book are wonderful, so I think my expectations were very high, however there something just not quite there with this book.

Firstly – for us brits, it’s an American book. I changed some words (including the title to lead instead of leash) as I read it.

I just feel the book is a bit to wordy and not necessarily the right language for younger children especially. The sentiment of it however is lovely.

I first read it to my youngest, and a lot of it seemed to go over his head. But then again he’s only 4 (nearly 5) , and I found I had to summarise after. He is used to wordy books – we read a lot and he enjoys chapter books, so perhaps it’s the choice of language and the way it’s put together. For a book on such an emotive subject, it almost could have done with being simpler.

For my 7 year old (nearly 8) he got it more and thought he could feel our cat pulling on his string.

Like I say, the sentiment of the book is lovely, I love the thought of the invisible leash (or lead in our case) but you are essentially explaining the expression ‘tugging on your heart strings’ to children, and that’s quite tricky as it’s a very grown up phrase and concept.

We recently lost our 14 year old dog. I bought this for my 5 and 9 year old children to help them deal with him not being around and it really helped. We did change the word leash to lead in the story for our 5 year old. It’s a lovely book and it had us all crying both sad and happy tears.

This has so helped my 8 year old granddaughter who struggled very much with the loss of her dog. She still says she can feel the leash pulling on her heart, it has helped greatly.

    Lovely story and beautifully illustrated

Such a beautiful story. Really reassuring to young kids when trying to cope with a pet loss. A tough read as a parent to read without shedding a tear!
