Here is the story of Ireland’s Civil War in colour – a defining moment in Irish history brought to life for the first time in hand-coloured photographs. The events of 1922–1923 are revealed using photographs painstakingly hand-coloured by John O’Byrne. His attention to detail gives a vivid authenticity that brings the events alive. Many of these photographs, carefully selected from archives and private collections, have never been published before. They carry informative captions by Michael B. Barry, based on extensive historical research.
This richly illustrated book gives a fresh perspective to the conflict. If you want a better understanding of the story of the Irish Civil War, this is the book for you.

Really instructive and entertaining.

It is a little known subject in England. Though it is of interest to me. I found this to be an excellent read with the colour photos bringing the history to life.

Main reason for buying on Amazon, way cheaper than buying in any book shop I have seen it in. Book is of excellent quality, and brimming with loads of excellent photos from a major period in Irish history. For those that want to learn about history in photos rather than reading 10’s of thousands of words, thus is an excellent, engaging informative book.

The book is concisely written & follows the event of the war clearly. It’s seeing the pictures in colour of course that has such an immense impact. I have read a few books about this period but seeing the faces, the colours & gaining a new perspective was a different kind of learning. You will be impressed with the images & whatever your level of understanding you will develop a deeper knowledge about how our country was born. The authors deserve credit for the work as it must have taken an immense amount of time. I highly recommend this text, so pleased I bought it.
