HOW THIS BOOK IS DIFFERENT AND DELIVERS RESULTS
The Joy of Accounting uses a revolutionary system of teaching that’s getting rave reviews at top universities, banks, law firms and business schools.
This is what Harvard Business School had to say:
“[The system] has the advantage of showing how accounting works visually. We all tend to see problems and relationships more easily visually, so the [Joy of Accounting] approach takes advantage of how we learn most effectively. As such, I believe that it is of value to anyone who is interested in understanding how accounting works (from high school students to undergrads to MBAs to business executives).” – Paul Healy, Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School
Other books teach the fundamentals of finance and accounting using jargon and vague language. They don’t use graphics and skip over concepts they assume you know.
What makes The Joy of Accounting truly different to other accounting books is a diagram which shows accounting on a single page. Using color-coding, the game-changing Color Accounting BaSIS Framework makes accounting as easy as pointing a finger.
Accounting made easy:
By observing thousands of learners in cities around the world, from New York, London and LA to Sydney and 30 countries, the authors identified 3 aspects of learning that, when addressed guarantee you’ll “get” accounting.
Hands-on and visual learning:
The book is fun and rigorous at the same time. With available props for purchase, the process is like an accounting game and simple to follow.
Is it truly revolutionary?
Yes, the Color Accounting BaSIS Framework™ does for accounting what the mouse and icons did for computers. When Apple introduced the Macintosh, using a computer became as simple as pointing, and everyone could do it.
The Joy of Accounting means that ANYONE can now see how accounting works.

Takes the frustration out of learning something new. I have a background in marketing and have never felt confident with numbers. After reading this book i now have a good fundamental understanding of accounting. Its unique teaching style made it enojyable to learn and easy to retain.
by Richard Bradley
The philosophy of this book is ‘understand and then do’, so it starts with a surprisingly deep discussion of concepts and then shows how they work in practice. A never realised that accounting could be this interesting!
by J B Lane
Focussing on the simplicty of underlying principles and providing clear examples has a remarkably positive impact on understanding and retention. The book is an extension of an approach to teaching accounting principles which i have seen used very succesfully with lawyers. The book takes a very language based approach and provides a high level of accounting literacy without being drawn into the distracting complexity of GAAP accounting rules.
by Mary Contrary
This book has fundamentally changed my view of accounting. It turns out it’s not boring, it’s not a mystery and it’s not for someone in another office to take care of – it is for me too! I sat down to read it because I ‘needed to know’ and I ended up going on this amazing journey and couldn’t put it down. I just wanted more – when I got one section, I was hungry for the next. The authors’ voice jumps out of the page, carries you along – kindly and gently – and reveals to you an amazing model, to get your head around accounting. This book is not for the business shelves of any book store (real or virtual). It should be front of house as a revelatory, must read for everyone. It’s about life as much as about accounting. I feel all the smarter for having read it.

After a 30 odd year career in Finance; I can finally say that there is a book available that will help you to master the fundamentals of Accounting, using an amazingly simple technique…the BaSIS Framework. Developed by Peter and Mark after long and illustrious careers in the world of Finance, they are now able to help the rest of us come to grips with the subject that almost everyone runs away from during their business studies and career progression!
How often haven’t I heard the expression: “Oh, I leave that for my accountant to sort out”, or “The finance department will take care of that”! This is a very bad move on the part of any entrepreneur, business director or aspiring manager. You simply cannot afford in this day and age to have NO knowledge of the language of Accounting! Doing so WILL be detrimental to your career and business development.
The Joy of Accounting – a misnomer in many people’s lives – outlines the very essence of what accounting is about. You will go from understanding how accounting started, (it is possibly the earliest recorded universal ‘language’ on earth) to being able to read and understand a basic set of Financial Statements. Will you become an Accountant – well no, not unless that is your goal – but you will be able to ask your Accountant or Financial Director some very pertinent questions….and trust me there is nothing that keeps an Accountant more on their ‘toes’ than having a client or manager who understands their mystical jargon.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough!
