The Kitt Hartley Yorkshire Mysteries Series 5 Books Collection Set By Helen Cox (Murder by the Minster, A Body in the Bookshop, Murder on the Moorland, Death Awaits in Durham, A Witch Hunt in Whitby):
Murder by the Minster:
It’s a perfectly normal day for Kitt Hartley at her job at the University of the Vale of York library, until Detective Inspector Halloran arrives at her desk to tell her that her best friend, Evie Bowes, is under suspicion of murder.
A Body in the Bookshop:
Librarian Kitt Hartley and her friend Evie Bowes thought their life had gone back to normal after the shocking events of Murder by the Minster. Then DI Malcolm Halloran breaks some bad news.
Murder on the Moorland:
Kitt Hartley wakes to the news that a murder has been committed in Irendale, a village high on the wild Yorkshire moors where her boyfriend, DI Malcolm Halloran lived with his ex-wife until she, too, was murdered.
Death Awaits in Durham:
When librarian and budding private investigator Kitt Hartley visits her ex-assistant Grace Edwards in Durham, she soon learns of an unsolved murder. A year ago Jodie Perkins, a Mechanics student, disappeared after her student-radio broadcast was cut short with a deafening scream.
A Witch Hunt in Whitby:
A serial killer is loose in Yorkshire, and has claimed three victims in three months. Eleven days before each murder, a large purple V is painted on the front door of the victim’s house. The victims, all of whom have some association with the occult, are found drained of blood with two red marks on their neck.

Just finished reading a series of books by LJ Ross and then a series by Elly Griffiths which has kept me entertained whilst stuck at home trying to recover from back pain. I haven’t been a big reader over the years and find my concentration span quite poor but thoroughly enjoyed this series following on from my previous discoveries of the other two authors. Superb entertaining read interspersed with some great humour. ????

Fresh look at the Britsh Whodunit genre.

A friend recommended these for me as I like a good detective novel. Stories about a Librarian and her assistant who eventually set up a PI Agency and assist the York Police with murder enquiries. Nicely written but very twee.

I have not read this author before, and wanted to explore new writers. These books did not disappoint. They are well written and quite unputdownable. I hope that Helen Cox writes more Kitt Hartley mysteries, as I will be buying them. Definitely recommend.

Not the best written crime fiction I’ve read but the plots are quite good. What I find very annoying throughout all five books is the very formal way they are written, for example; “Kitt’s somewhat unsettling statement gave all three women pause. They fell silent as they considered the task in front of them.” “Are there other theories you’d care to venture?” “I sympathise with their reaction.” “Vampire Cults? What does that entail?” – Who says “entail”? Loosen up the writing and they would be much better.

This set of books were for my Mum who is 91 and loves to read mysteries and crime thrillers. Mum does not get out much so loves to sit and read. Mum said this set of books were good stories and they were a really good price – Mum can read 2 -3 books a week. A good set of books that arrived on time. Thank you.
