The Last Trial (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers Book 3)

£2.80

Former law professor Tom McMurtrie has brought killers to justice, and taken on some of the most infamous cases in Alabama’s history. Now he’s tackling his greatest challenge.

McMurtrie’s old nemesis, Jack Willistone, is found dead on the banks of the Black Warrior River. Willistone had his share of enemies, but all evidence points to a forgotten, broken woman as the killer. At the urging of the suspect’s desperate fourteen-year-old daughter, McMurtrie agrees to take the case.

But as seasoned as McMurtrie is, even he isn’t prepared for how personal and dangerous this case is going to get. With the trial drawing near and his sharp young partner, Rick Drake, dealing with a family tragedy, he recruits his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, to help investigate.

As key witnesses disappear and old demons return, time becomes McMurtrie’s most fearsome opponent. Soon loyalties will be tested and the boundaries of law will be broken as McMurtrie fights to save his legacy—and his client’s life—before the truth is buried forever in the muddy waters of the Black Warrior.

Enjoyed this series of 4 books. But not an advert for tourism. A bit like Oxford/Morse, Durham/George Gently and others, keep away the population in Alabama is dwindling ….

What a brilliant follow on from the last novel. I couldn’t put it down but at the same time I didn’t want to reach the end!

This is the second in a trilogy from this author. I read the first and was fairly interested. This second book is even better. The stories are well put together and move at a good pace. Whilst each book is a story on its own, I would encourage readers to read the first book (Between Black and White) then this one (the Last Trial) and finally the last one The Final reckoning. All fit together nicely and I look forward to more from this author.

I’m loving this legal crime thriller series, I’ve read all 3 books in the series back to back. Each book could be read as a standalone but it’s well worth reading the series in order. Why? Because each story leads onto the next book. There are some memorable characters that make this series such a good read. The court room scenes aren’t too long winded but add tension to the overall plot. The plots are exciting, and well developed.

I just love the books Robert Bailey writes. I get so into the court cases and the characters. Cannot put the books down. A really good read. You suspect the main characters will come through but with hired assassin’s you keep your fingers crossef.

I have Just read this excellent book, the third in the McMurtrie and Drake series. No spoilers. Strongly recommend that you read all three, read the author’s notes after ‘ The Last Trial ‘ – then reflect on the title of this review.
