A disgraced soccer exec reluctantly enlists the help of a retired soccer star in coaching a children’s team in this small-town love story in the vein of Ted Lasso and It Happened One Summer.
Adalyn Reyes has something to prove. After years of working at her father’s football club she wants to make a name for herself. But not for the wrong reasons.
When an embarrassing video of Adalyn goes viral, her father sends her to a small town to turn around their struggling soccer team. She arrives armed with plans to kick them into shape only to find a group of nine-year-old girls. One person is there to help: Cameron Caldani, a goalkeeping legend who is also inexplicably in town. After an unfortunate incident involving a rooster, the two find themselves on opposing sides.
Adalyn thinks Cameron is a surly, scowling brute. Cameron thinks Adalyn needs to take life less seriously. Despite their differences, the two need to play nice and remember they’re on the same team. After all, it’s a long game…

I loved her first two books but I could not get into this one at all. Didn’t warm to the characters. The premise didn’t really make sense – how was helping with a girls soccer team meant to get her career back on track?? There was no chemistry between the characters and it was all a bit flat. Really struggled to finish it.

I did not enjoy this as much as The Spanish Love Deception or the American Roommate Experiment, but I’d be hard-pressed to explain why! It was fine. I had a good time. No regrets at all and I’ll read the next book.

Let me start by saying I am a huge Elena Armas fan. Her previous two books were easily 5-star, absolutely loved and enjoyed them.
So what in the world did I just read??? I was SO excited about the Long Game. I am a huge football fan, love Ted Lasso, but this was just such a difficult read and I hate myself for it. I hated the main characters. Also what was the point of goats anyway?
Enemies to lovers but they weren’t enemies, just two difficult and quite nasty people. The plot was boring and lacked any suspense. I felt like they went from hating to loving each other just out of nowhere. I feel so bad and sad about how much I disliked this book. I am still really excited about the next one. The first two books were too good to give up on Elena, and I hope this book was just a blip.

Honestly, I am very disappointed. I love all Elena’s books, well except this one. I read all the previous books within 2 days, I laughed and cried and became obsessed with every single couple. So when I saw that she published a new book I didn’t even hesitate to order it. However, the characters in this book barely had any chemistry and the whole plot felt kind of slow and boring. I didn’t fall in love with it immediately like I did with all her other books and quite frankly, I didn’t fall in love with it at all. I only finished it because I kept hoping it would eventually get better and it would give me the right boost of endorphins but nope. This books was so much weaker than all her other books that it makes me question whether she actually wrote it or if it is a work of a ghostwriter. Sadly, I do not recommend the book. I would not read it again.

Thank you to Elena for the early e-arc copy through @fable. I am grateful to have met these characters early. My review is honest.
This book has without a doubt taken complete control of my mind. I cannot stop thinking about Cameron and Adalyn. If you know me, you know I love a grumpy x sunshine romance but also throw in a little bit of nemesis to lovers, I’m 100% sold.
Armas has once again written a beautiful novel filled with witty one liners, incredible characters and some quotes that will live with me for a long time.
This novel had me laughing, crying, and screaming at the characters. I adored every moment of it, even the small silly scenes, and I wish I could read it again for the first time.
I can’t write this review and not shout out how incredible Maria, the 9 year old girl with her goat, Brandy are. A perfect addition to this book.

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book at all. It was difficult to follow at times and hard to finish, I skipped the last couple of chapters as the story was boring and the angst didn’t really make sense. Neither character was particularly likeable and even though its a long book, very little happens yet bigger moments feel rushed. Disappointing, as I loved the author’s previous books.
