I wanted this football book to encourage my sporty child who is a reluctant reader. He can read well but doesn’t seem to enjoy it and it feels like work to him. Whilst there are some scattered illustrations and a ball bouncing along the top of the pages, I would have preferred some more illustrations to make it feel less intimidating to him. The line spacing however was good- slightly wider than normal which I think makes it look like less to read. Although it was published in 2022 it must have been written before our Women’s team had their amazing Euro success but it still does have a reasonable amount about earlier Women’s football. The stories are well written and funny. My son has just turned 9 (yr4) and I would say this is aimed at primary school children his age and above.

Perfect gift for a football mad son who absolutely loves facts. It’s loaded with information and interesting notes. Incredible value for money and my son read this so quickly. He still goes back to it though and refers to it a lot so I think it was a great gift.
