The Odd Fish: A new illustrated children’s picture book with a powerful message about plastic pollution in the ocean and looking after our environment

£7.00£7.60 (-8%)

A warm and funny eco-adventure with a clever message about looking after our blue planet, perfect for budding David Attenboroughs!

When Little Fish and her family encounter an odd new fish bobbing along on its own, they embark on an exciting journey to reunite it with its family.

But Odd Fish isn’t the only creature who needs Little Fish’s help. Turtle has a tummy ache and Octopus’s tentacles are tangled. Clever readers will spot the one thing that links them all . . . plastic.

Maybe Odd Fish doesn’t belong in the sea after all?

Eight million tonnes of plastic find their way into our oceans and rivers every year. That’s equal to dumping one rubbish truck every minute into the sea!

This urgent problem is highlighted for the youngest readers with gentle humour and engaging characters, and offers practical ways we we can all make a real difference to protect our oceans and the creatures that live in them, and opens up key discussions about the environment and the topical issues highlighted in David Attenborough’s Blue Planet.

I love this story and so do my grandchildren! It is beautifully illustrated and clearly tells such an important story with a strong realistic message to our youngsters about the horror of plastic in our oceans. Through our encounter with odd fish we become aware of the increasing pollutants in a very accessible way for children to understand. As they become curious to know more it is a nice touch to have lots of information in the back as to what action we can all take to help improve our oceans. PS We loved trying to find the crab on every page!

This book is a nice, easy book but can only see as an introductory resource for a earth day-type lesson. Ie, whole school collecting plastic bottles for art craft.
The story isn’t much deeper than that. Wouldnt use for older than Year 2 (6-7yrs)

We have been learning about plastic pollution in class and this story was a perfect addition to our book collection.

Purchased as my reception class is learning about caring for our planet. Lovely book- quite a sad last page showing lots of plastic in the water, but provoked lots of discussion. Some factual info at the back showing children careing for beaches.

A deceptively simple story that’s a great introduction to environmental issues, told with such gentle humour, warmth and kindness. Great as either a calming bedtime story, or as a more interactive joining in rumbunctious read. Another hit from the author-illustrator team behind our family’s firm favourite The Perfect Hit. Recommended!

A lovely story with great illustrations with a good environmental message about the oceans for children to understand and a lovely touch at the end bringing in the family and their own experience living by the coast.

Interesting story with a definite message about the effects of pollution in our world. Bought for a 4 year old to share with his parents.

I absolutely loved this book – a gentle, thoughtful and highly original introduction to plastic pollution in our seas. Pitched at just the right level for very young readers and with just the right tone. Wonderful spring-board for discussion both at home and in schools and with brill facts and suggestions at the end. Superb!
