‘Lenni and Margot are two of the most wonderful, warm, witty and wise heroines I’ve ever met. Beautiful and glorious’ CLARE POOLEY, author of The Authenticity Project
Fiercely alive, disarmingly funny and brimming with tenderness, THE ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF LENNI AND MARGOT unwraps the extraordinary gift of life, and revels in our infinite capacity for friendship and love when we need them most.
_______________________________________
Life is short.
No-one knows that better than seventeen-year-old Lenni. But as she is about to learn, it’s not only what you make of life that matters, but who you share it with.
Dodging doctor’s orders, she joins an art class where she bumps into fellow patient Margot, a rebel-hearted eight-three-year-old from the next ward. Their bond is instant as they realize that together they have lived an astonishing one hundred years.
To celebrate their shared century, they decide to paint their life stories: of growing old and staying young, of giving joy, of receiving kindness, of losing love, of finding the person who is everything.
As their friendship deepens, it becomes vividly clear that life is not done with Lenni and Margot yet.
An extraordinary friendship. A lifetime of stories. Their last one begins here.

Disclaimer – I’m not one for any books that are described as ‘harrowing’ and from the get-go, you know that there will need to be sad bits to this book. However, somehow, the author managed to weave a quirky, emotive story with laugh out lough moments mixed with snotty tears. Highly recommended!

Having read the blurb about the book I was concerned about how heavy or upsetting I might find it, but somehow Marianne Cronin has captured the vivacity of Margot and Lenni. The characters were sweet and engaging, and it was a wonderful depiction about how special friendships without age boundaries can be.

Beautiful story about friendship. The bonds built between people who may never have met if it wasn’t for their circumstances. Would recommend to others.

I look back at this book and cannot believe it was a debut! It was brilliantly written in my opinion. I believed in the characters and loved reading through the book and learning about them and how they got to be where they were and a little about why they were the people they had become.
I laughed and was choked up by some of the things I read. Just a beautiful story of life and humanity I think. No rosé tint necessary.

This is one of those books that reminds me why I love reading so much. I laughed and cried throughout. This book warmed and broke my heart all at the same time. I have recommended this to so many people already.
My reason for four stars was simply because it was a slow burn and I wasn’t hooked during the first half- in fact I considered not finishing it at one point. I found the timeline jumps difficult at times to keep up and kept having to flick back and forth. However, once all relationships and friendships were established I couldn’t help but fall in love with the characters and the overall story. I loved so many quotes from this book, truly stunning writing from Marianne Cronin. This book will stick with me for a long time.
