The Orphan’s Silver Spoon
£1.90
Doxie Shaw suffers bitterly in an orphanage in Victorian London. As she struggles to survive, she tries to comfort the younger children, but her kindness quickly costs her the only home she’s ever known.
Thrown into the streets at the tender age of nine, Doxie’s gentle heart tries to keep on loving and hoping in a world that seems bent on destroying her. Faced by one trial after another, Doxie becomes acquainted with the depth of cruelty in her city. Struggling to hold onto hope, Doxie’s only evidence she’s ever been loved is the silver spoon that was tucked into her rags when she was left at the orphanage as an infant. But what does it mean? Where did she and the silver spoon come from? Will she ever know who her family really is?
And can she find solace in the sweetness of Owen Green’s gap-toothed grin? Will he be able to help her find the answers her tender heart seeks?

Whilst this book was quite good it also seemed in places to be very harsh but also very far fetched.

Would of been a great story if we knew what happened to the kids in the orphanage and in the work house and what happened to the woman and her sick kids that doxi took to the Dr I know these are short stories but it makes a difference to know otherwise I enjoyed it

This was a story that kept me intrigued all the way through. I like to read Victorian stories and this one took me back to the era. I find it hard to believe just what our ancestors had to go through and yet, managed to keep hope with them. Many times the main character had me in a gasp as she tried to find those who loved her but were forced to abandon her. A great novel, for anyone who loves this era
