The Path to the Last House Before the Sea: A completely gripping and emotional page-turner (Heaven’s Cove)

£1.90

Alyssa carefully holds the delicate paper map and looks down at the cottages and winding streets of the village by the shore. She came to Heaven’s Cove for a fresh start. But will the pathways on the map lead her to an old secret?

Fleeing from a heartbreaking mistake, all former nurse Alyssa wants is to focus on her new job giving tours of Heaven’s Cove to visitors and sharing the myths and legends of this beautiful place. Nobody needs to know the real reason she came to the village…

Over cups of tea with elderly resident Magda she soon makes a friend who is alone in the world too. For decades, Magda has been secretly in love with her best friend Stan. Desperate to return Magda’s kindness, Alyssa is eager to bring these two lost souls together. But meeting Stan’s tall, handsome son Jack scuppers her plans.

Dedicated to caring for Stan, Jack says Alyssa’s focus on legends keeps the village in the past. But when Alyssa finds an old map revealing the true story of a Heaven’s Cove couple who sacrificed everything for love, she’s sure the romantic tale could bring Stan and Magda together… and although digging up old secrets soon ruffles feathers in the village, with Jack and Alyssa growing close, she can’t help but think she might find happiness after all.

But will Alyssa ever be able to open up about her own past? Or will the truth tear them apart?

This book can be enjoyed as a standalone.

An absolutely stunning read that will whisk you away to the Devon coast, where the seagulls soar and saltwater sprays the air. Perfect for fans of Debbie Macomber, Mary Alice Monroe and Barbara O’Neal.

I have loved this series and the characters but it would be nice if the women were a bit more like women of today and not so over thinking with no confidence. The books are definitely worth a read.

Ok, enjoyable fifth book in the series…. I haven’t read a series of books so quickly! This one I found a little disappointing! Nice main characters, and some returning ones (would have been nice to see more of Lettie, Freya and others too, if final book?) It seem to start like the others…but next thing I saw was the epilogue (and not because I read them quick). I loved the idea of the treasure hunt and smuggler side, Magda and Stan even Alyssa and Jack… Won’t give any spoilers (do read this book) But everything just seemed to conclude I wanted to read more…. The other four didn’t feel rushed… These can be read as standalone! But I think I wouldn’t have searched for the others if I did!…. Please do read, I did enjoy the series though

I enjoyed this instalment in the Heaven’s Cove series, it follows its usual romantic path, but the characters are better in this book. I look forward to reading the next one when it’s out

I’ve loved all of Liz’s books, and with each book her writing style has grown and developed. Her books are lovely and cosy, perfect for a cold wintry evening.
I loved this book, especially the mystery of the smugglers tunnels.
I can’t wait to read the next installment.

I really like Heaven’ Cove. It’s always a bit of escapism from city life. This is an unusual story, but it brings in secrets, romance , tears and smiles. I would have liked more of the previous characters. One critical point – these days nurses are listened to and don’t take the blame when a doctor makes a mistake.
If you like to bury yourself in a good story in a lovely setting with interesting characters, read it. It does not disappoint.
