I thought I knew the Lake District fairly well but this guide took me to places I had never previously visited. I bought it after the Scottish Highland & Islands book did a similar job. The ‘honey pot’ locations are covered but there are many lesser known spots, which I find very rewarding to visit. I particularly like the car parking locations and access details, which other books can be a little vague about. The books tend to get you to a location with potential, rather than telling you where to put your tripod for ‘the’ shot, other when there is only one shot at that location.

I now have a fair few of these and they are superb, the maps are fantastic, the guide images give you a good start, and every location has more than the image that you see, they are great for planning trips really easy to use and give grid references and postcodes for parking, along with easy directions from parking to the shot with a grid reference.
I’d highly recommend these guides.

So glad I brought this for our trip to the lake district it’s really informative on all information you need down to parking GPS locations best routes and has a page that tells you how difficult of a walk and how long of a walk it will take to get to the perfect spots. It helped us plan our trip down to the t we were very efficient.

I only received the book yesterday but I can see it would be very useful for someone not familiar with the area, though there are some suggestions for car parking which will have become less sure due to recent changes. The areas chosen are generally the touristy areas but there are many more hidden gems that could have been included. I have lived in the Lake District for over 45 years and have climbed every mountain (yes really) and walked almost every path so I know this book only scratches the surface of what a delight the area is for both professional and enthusiast photographers. Nevertheless, it is still worth buying and you can always add to it yourself 🙂

Went to the Lake District with friends for the first time. Being a keen photographer I wanted to make the most of my time there. The book is incredibly detailed in description. A must if your intending to visit!

This book is such a brilliant but simple idea. It contains everything a photographer needs to know about some of the most photogenic parts of the Lakes including directions, parking options, map references, best times to photograph, sunset/sunrise times as well as copies of OS maps for the area and some beautiful photographs of each site.
It’s suitable for photographers wanting to get directly to a location very early or late in the day without wasting time trying to find a place. It’s also great for those planning walks that can incorporate a few of the most scenic locations in an area as all locations are grouped together by area within the book.
I know the North Lakes quite well but want to go further afield next trip and this book is perfect as an introduction to those parts I’ve not visited before as well as giving me an insight to other options for places I already know. It fits nicely into a large jacket pocket/rucksack pocket and will certainly be accompanying me on my visits in future.
To sum up whether you’re a photographer or walker this is an absolute must have book very worthy of the 5 star ratings it’s attracting.

I have four of these guidebooks now and I can’t recommend them enough. All the information you need about where and also crucially when to go to get those ‘classic’ shots.
Whilst you won’t be getting any original shots they are brilliant if your just visiting an area or on holiday with the family so a bit time crunched.
Highly recommend.
