‘Diverting… pleasurable… entertaining’ New York Times

‘Relevant and fresh… [Good Omens] still has a lot to say about the world’ Empire

‘Even if you’re very familiar with the original novel, this is a different experience… so damned charming and quirky that it feels like a must’ Starburst

Neil Gaiman’s glorious reinvention of the iconic bestseller Good Omens, adapted from the internationally beloved novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, launched on Amazon Prime Video this year to great acclaim. Soon to be shown on the BBC, the series is written and show-run by Neil himself and stars David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm and Miranda Richardson, to name but a few.

Before he died, Terry Pratchett asked Neil Gaiman to make a television series of the internationally beloved novel they wrote together about the end of the world.

What followed was almost… ineffable. Over six glorious episodes, Neil brought an angel, Aziraphale, and a demon, Crowley, (the only things standing between us and the inevitable Armageddon) to life in some of the most extraordinary television ever made.

Here you will find the scripts that Neil wrote, containing much that is new and revelatory and even several scenes throughout that never made the final cut. For the very first time, this edition collects all the missing bits – from a certain Other Four Horsemen to a little demonic shopping trip – and reveals the secrets of the show, which, by its very nature, is known to ask for the impossible.

Step backstage and see the magic for yourself.

**This edition of The Quite Nice and Fairly Accurate Good Omens Script Book contains an introduction by Neil Gaiman about bringing Good Omens to the screen and all cut scenes**

Note that there are 4 different editions of the script book. The newest (white/gold paperback, Jan 2020, ISBN 978-1472261281) is the one that contains all the deleted scenes, including the ‘street urchin’ scene that Neil Gaiman found under a pile on his desk after the show had aired.

This is one for the fans of the book and the series. If you don’t know Good Omens, start with the novel, then watch the series and get the script book once you’re seriously addicted. For me, reading the script made me all the more admiring of the show’s huge creative team. It demonstrated that while a great show has to have a great script as its foundation, it still takes the whole edifice of sets, makeup, music and brilliant acting to make it come alive. Scenes that are beautiful and moving on the screen – such as when Crowley sees a vision of Aziraphale after he thought he was dead – are surprisingly dry on the page.

That said, the directions offer a few insights (not enough!) on ambiguous moments and there are some funny jokes inserted into the script direction by Neil Gaiman that made me laugh (I loved the Actor Who Wishes He Had A Line But He Doesn’t). It’s also really interesting to see how things got cut, changed and moved around between the script and final show. If you love all things Good Omens you will love this.

Fantastic read which provides insight into the show. For example it has deleted scenes and scenes that are in a different order than the final cut of the TV show.
It is also just pretty hilarious. Neil Gaimen didn’t necessarily take it all too seriously and so you get such gems as ‘BOOM – HUGE EXPLOSION. FIRE AND LIGHT AND THINGS BEING BLOWN AROUND. SO COOL AN EXPLOSION THAT I AM TYPING IN CAPITALS.’
    So, yeah. It’s good.

This edition included the deleted scenes, which was important for this purchase. If this interests you, search by the ISBN to make sure you get the correct edition (I followed this same recommendation from another reader)

This is, of course, a script book for Good Omens, and what more could you ask? Okay, it’s not the special edition from Waterstones with a few extra scenes that we never got to see in the series. The four other bikers are in this, at the end, but not Aziraphale getting his medal for long service, or trying to get rid of the woman who just can’t live without another Barnaby Rudge story. Such a pity – but you can google those scenes and there’s footage of Neil Gaiman reading them aloud, so it’s not all bad.

Anyway – buy it. You know you want to. And then if they release another version with ALL the missing scenes, buy that, too. Buy all of them. Buy the soundtrack. Buy Michael Sheen a drink. It’s all absolutely ineffable.
