A really handy and helpful book for all Primary School teachers. I frequently refer to this book when teaching D&T and would recommend it to both newly qualified and experienced teachers. It is easy to use and includes some great tips for practical activities.

The book provides great ideas for lessons and the lesson plans are really easy to follow. I found the subject knowledge sections for IT and control and the electronic chapters especially useful. I’ve even done some of the activities with children in my own family which kept them entertained for a little while! Overall, great resource for in and outside the classroom!

I always dreaded having to teach Design and Technology until I bought this book. It has clear explanations of the concepts and design features used and excellent lesson plans which have clearly been well tested and thought out. The projects included are loved by the pupils I teach and have used them with. No longer is D and T a lesson to fear but now one of my favourite parts of the curriculum to teach, all thanks to this book!

I’m not usually a fan of teaching D&T and lacked confidence in delivering lessons and meeting objectives fully. Our school resources were extremely dated and I had not taught a full unit of D&T for quite some time- until this book was purchased by our school. The plans are fantastic with detailed steps explaining the processes with helpful diagrams. It’s almost like having a tutor alongside you when teaching! The cross curricular links help to ensure coverage across other areas and the book is well written with a clear layout. Lessons are now fool-proof and I’ve rediscovered my love for teaching D&T. My class have especially enjoyed the sewing and baking activities but there are lessons pitched for a variety of interests. I would highly recommend adding this book to your teaching library.

I’m really glad I have this book, the layout is crystal clear with great instructions, illustrations and photographs, and the ideas are inspirational. My year 3 class were particularly excited by the magic picture, we used this as a cross-curricular opportunity to complement our science ‘Light’ topic. Each chapter has a useful introduction giving the historical background and reasons for teaching each strand, cross curricular and the MTPs save a lot of time. I feel much more confident teaching D&T now, especially because of the ‘Things to Consider’ boxes which mean I am unlikely to run into difficulties.

This is the resource I’ve always needed. It provides a creative and engaging range of lesson plans complete with pictorial instructions and cross curricular links. The lessons are clearly well thought through and tried and tested: evidenced by the ‘Things to Consider’ box. My first sequence of lessons, taught from the ‘Mechanisms’ section, ran smoothly and my Year 4 class haven’t been able to stop talking about them since. I will now look forward to teaching D&T with the aid of this quality resource.

Excellent book for the D&T coordinator. Very helpful also for teachers who need clear examples of how to do particular methods.
