***Trigger Warning*** drug use, bullying, bulimia, infidelity, sexual abuse
Each week, they come to lie on her couch. Carrie, Henry, and Grace spill their inner most secrets to psychologist Dr Alex.
Then, a murderer strikes in their elite neighbourhood. Could her clients hold the answers? As a psychologist, she knows that anyone can be a killer if they’re pushed hard enough.
This was my first read by the author Rachel Lynch and it has been a thrilling rollercoaster ride.
The books initially started slow, introducing multiple characters and setting the story. It really picked up speed once we are fully immersed in the case. There are plenty of characters, and they are all linked to Dr. Alex, either family, clients, or friends. The chapters are short and written from multiple POV. There are also flashbacks to the days when the victim was still alive.
At times, I felt Dr. Alex should have focused more on sorting her own family rather than trying to fix her clients. It is hard to sum up the book as it has a complicated & entwined plot, and I don’t want to give away any spoilers.
The Rich is a gripping thriller that delivered multiple twists. I didn’t see the end coming as I was initially suspicious about another character.
I certainly enjoyed the writing style of the author, and I am looking forward to reading further books of Rachel Lynch.

I was kept very entertained by the cast of characters and their interwoven lives in ‘The Rich’ by Rachel Lynch.
Dr Alex is a therapist who has the answers to everyone’s problems except her own, her alcoholic husband Jeremy is getting worse and worse in his blackouts and her teenage children all have their own issues going on.
She deals with a wide range of Cambridge’s most affluent residents, from health influencer Grace to Carrie, a kickass businesswoman ,and Henry who has been released from prison and is having therapy to keep him on track in his recovery. They all live seemingly aspirational lives, but Alex knows the truth about what is really going on for them.
The chapters are told from each of the characters in turn which I really enjoyed; this propelled the story forward and kept my interest throughout. I really loved the way that the characters all had their own relationships with each other, Grace is Carrie’s personal trainer, Henry fitted Carrie’s kitchen and so on. There’s also a strand of the story with Dr Alex’s youngest son Ewan, which links in brilliantly with several of the main characters as well.
The books opens with a woman’s brutal murder which is the heart of the book. We don’t hear much more about that for a while but her death is in the background and obviously becomes a more integral part of the story as time goes on. I was worried that the book would be too graphic for me as that’s not my thing at all but other than the opening chapter it isn’t very bloody at all.
All in all, a highly enjoyable psychological thriller that I would recommend to anyone

AD/PR – The Rich is a brilliant and twisty thriller full of sex, lies and murder where the rich realise money can’t always save them.
I’ll admit I went into this expecting a fun and easygoing guilty pleasure read that I could switch off and enjoy. I did get all of that but it had sooo much more substance. The Rich weaves this tangled web of interconnected characters and timelines where you have to stay sharp to follow who knows who and what their role in this murder mystery is. I loved how all these characters and storylines were juggled without it ever feeling confused or too much. It all came together brilliantly in the final part of the book and the ending left me completely satisfied.
Overall, a thriller you won’t want to put down once you start! A very clever murder mystery full of unreliable and unlikeable characters doing very bad things. Loved it!

A page turning pyschological thriller that keeps you guessing throughout.
‘Sometimes the truth is left discarded for all to see, and sometimes it needs planting’.
We follow a series of characters, all with interwoven lives some way or another. Told through multiple voices, Alex is our main character, the only voice told in first person.
Alex is a pyschologist who has connections with all of the characters featured. Jeremy – her husband, Grace – her client, Henry – her client, Carrie – her client, Tony – her friend, and Tony’s wife, Monika.. who is found murdered.
We follow all the characters perspectives of the lead up to the murder and the days that follow.
????????????????????????????????
This was a very complex thriller that weaves all of the characters together throughout. Its told only in the first person by our FMC, Alex, then third person for all of the other characters which I really enjoyed. It did take me some time to figure out who was speaking when it changed character, but you get used to the names.
All of the characters have complex backgrounds and history, each with their own secrets to hide. We see the history form through Alex coaxing information out of them in the therapy sessions, and seeing their own secrets when it’s their turn to tell their story.
The twists and turns had me shocked, I suspected one character, and then it ended up being another! Love pyschological thrillers that you can play detective on too.
‘I didn’t break the rules, I just used them to my advantage. I’d do it again in a heartbeat’.
