The Royal Baths Murder (A Yorkshire Murder Mystery Book 4)
£2.80
A murdered crime writer. An idyllic Yorkshire town. Can DCI Oldroyd separate fact from fiction?
A famous writer is found murdered at the Victorian baths in the Yorkshire town of Harrogate. In a crime worthy of one of his novels, Damian Penrose, who was appearing at the town’s crime writing festival, has been ruthlessly strangled. But with no trace of the murderer and no apparent means of escape, how did the killer simply vanish from the scene of the crime?
There’s only one mind capable of unlocking this mystery: DCI Jim Oldroyd. But as he and his team quickly discover, while Penrose was popular with the reading public, he had made plenty of enemies. Feuds over money, accusations of plagiarism, a string of affairs…His route to the top left a trail of embittered rivals—and suspects. But which of them was willing to commit murder?
When Penrose’s shocking death proves to be just the first of many, it becomes clear to Oldroyd that he is dealing with a calculating criminal hell-bent on revenge. He must find and bring them to justice. Before the truth becomes more chilling than fiction…

A bit different from previous books in this series and it’s a welcome change. The DCI gets a girlfriend and it’s a relief not to have him continuously moaning about his failure to get back together with Julia, his estranged wife. More importantly, his sister, Alison, likes her..
Things aren’t going so well for Steph, one of his two DS’s, the other being Andy Carter.
DI Fenton, well known creep and lecher, has his sights set on Steph as his next conquest, having stolen some intimate photos from her desk. They were taken by friends on a drunken holiday, when they dared each other to flash their boobs. Fenton threatened to pass them round the office if and refused his ‘proposal ‘ for sex.
She didn’t know what to do, there was still the old boys network and discussing this with a man wasn’t going to stop this. She decided to do something about this by talking to other females who had been on the receiving end of Fenton’s attentions.
Oldroyd was due to participate at Harrogate Crime Writers Festival. Each year he was invited to a Q and A session, where fictional crime and fact were compared. This year he was on scene to deal with the murder of an author, disliked by many due to stealing scripts and ideas from other writers. Add to that a monstrous ego, three ex wives and an ex male lover the suspect list was long.
So putting these ingredients together created a very readable book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

4th book I’ve read in this series totally enjoyed them all, I look forward to the rest of the series.
J.r. Ellis has a great way of making you think about the plot.

Another good read in this series. However, events that happen to Oldroyd himself are becoming rather implausible, but then again this is fiction so I guess anything can happen in an imaginary world lol

I’ve recommended this book to my friends and family. I throughly enjoyed the storyline. I loved when Stephanie and the other ladies worked together, in unison, to prevent the bullying manager. #Me too. I salute, JR Ellis

A “good read” ….loved the Yorkshire setting, the characters, (especially Oldroyd) and the plot. Read on a Kindle while travelling, and thoroughly enjoyed this book. Husband is up to number 8 in the series and raves about them. I’m going to have to start at no 1.
!!
I’m a great fan of a physical, true crime or historical, book, but this was a brilliant Kindle read.
