The Royal (Game of Chance Book 2)
£1.90
In this modern Cinderella story, New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker weaves a tale of stepfamilies, stalkers, and a suspenseful, sweeping romance that proves true love can conquer all.
Former military man and member of a royal family Callum Redmon can’t deny his sense of responsibility. So when his cousin’s latest love interest claims to have a stalker, Cal reluctantly meets with the young woman and her mother. He wants to write off the situation as a complete farce—if only his feelings for another member of the household could be as easily dismissed.
Since her father’s death seventeen years ago, Juniper Rose has been at the cruel beck and call of her stepmother and stepsister. Her fantasies of escape mean leaving behind her father’s beloved home, but enough is enough: when Cal offers her a way out sooner rather than later, June takes the leap.
Cal’s home in Maine with his military brothers seems like the safest place to start fresh. But as Cal and June’s fairy-tale romance blossoms into something real, they find that the dangers stalking them may have been real all along.

As a UK reader I don’t generally like US authors creating a British character and particularly dislike royal stories, but I am a fan of Susan Stoker, so wanted to read this. Cal was a great character, scarred by a torture experience and as an extremely minor royal, was really just like any other Stoker leading man. June, although downtrodden, had her own hidden strength, and I enjoyed their developing romance. The Britishisms weren’t perfect but certainly not terrible and didn’t spoil the story.

I found Cal’s angst a bit annoying at times but overall I enjoyed the book. The story itself was quite good with lots of interesting characters and layers. I absolutely loved the climactic ending- really exciting and well worth the wait.

It was so good that for once the lady had curves and it was believable of how a curvy woman would think. Well done Susan Stoked and thank you from all us curvy ladies.

Very good book. I didn’t give 5 stars as I don’t like books to be narrated, but the story kept me up all night

A modern day twist to Cinderella . June finds herself an unpaid slave/housekeeper/cook/cleaner to her stepmother Elaine, and her step sister Carla. She once owned the house she lives in left to her by her late father, but her conniving evil step mother tricks her into signing it over . June’s father died suddenly of a heart attack one year after marrying Elaine. He was a very fit man . Not old as June was only 15 when he died, but she was too grief stricken to question any outcome. Elaine and Clara treat June like dirt, and between them make her life hell. Not enough Elaine plots for her unpleasant daughter to catch her a prince!!! In steps Cal, and member of a royal family, who is retired from the Delta force following horrendous torture at the hands of mercenaries when on a mission!! He is dreadful scared both inside and out but all the dreaded two see is a cash cow, and title. However a special force guy he is and he immediately sees straight through the sheared, but on leaving takes June with him. The story unfolds and is full of drama, self doubt, intrigue, despicable characters, and very heart warming ones too. Old team members make appearances and we catch up on their progress. The elderly are described with love and humour and the whole story is extremely rewarding to read and dive into. It is as a ever by this great author, well written, edited and flows easily. It is not overly descriptive or repetitive and a pleasure to read throughout. Now for Bob’s story.

Cal is the most damaged of the team, he has the most scars, physically, emotionally and mentally, my heart hurts for him and the demons he still fights every single day. But that doesn’t stop him working, helping his team and protecting those who need it. What he never expected was the feelings June unearths, he didn’t think he was capable of want, lust, need or love, but June makes him feel…..everything.
Cal and June are amazing people individually, but together they are amazing. Both so selfless, so determined to put others first and so lacking in self confidence, but together their confidence soars, the walls they have built around their hearts crumble and the shattered pieces of their souls begin to heal, to knit back together stronger than ever.
An amazing series, I love all of the team. My only grumble is some of the ‘English-isms’ are not quite right, but I am looking forward to Bob’s book, he is the slightly crazy one of the team.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Absolutely loved this book ,made me cry in parts when a book does that it’s amazing.
June is a slave to her stepmother and stepsister like a modern day Cinderella. Cal is a prince and badly scarred from his time as a prisoner of war and was tortured.
A happy ending .love this authors books and would recommend .

Not for the faint hearted poor cal, I did find the sex talk a little over the stop and to many pages.this really is Cinderella story but question she was 18 I thought you was not a adult until 21 in America also being the women killed the man wouldn’t that hold yes he never left her the money but she got it off his daughter? I felt angry about the outcome of that
Looks like Bob is next did not realise the next two books are not out yet
