The Forsyth Variety Company has been given the opportunity of a lifetime – to entertain Her Majesty at 1962’s Royal Variety Performance.

Billy is full of bluster and ego and his much younger wife, the mysterious Magdalene, doesn’t help.
Can this troupe of old-time crooners, dancing girls and magicians possibly pull this off? Especially when they must compete with the 1960’s rebellious new bands and revolutionary music? Abandoned by her brother, Evie has no idea if she’ll ever be able to wrestle the troupe into a show fit for a queen.
But as the theatrical group heads towards a royal deadline like no other, Cal returns out of the blue to introduce a song that could change the world. Is he here to help, or are his motivations darker? As the company descends into illicit romance, family intrigue and foul crimes, rehearsals begin to unravel. Can they really do this?

I’ve read all Antons books enjoyed all .
Having read The Royal show, Although I enjoyed the storey,
I couldn’t get into the characters, hopefully a sequel will
bring them to life.????

I have read and enjoyed all Anton Du Beck’s books about the Buckingham hotel & its staff and have loved every minute of them. The characters were well developed and the stories gripping. Always the sign of a good book when you feel like you’re saying goodbye to old friends at the end & are sad to see them go. However, I didn’t feel the same way when reading ‘Royal Show’. Nice ‘nod’ to his friend Bruce calling the company ‘Forsyth Variety company’. However, the story didn’t grip me, the characters didn’t invite me into their story and, I’m sad to say, it lacked sparkle. I don’t know if it is a one-off or whether there will be more in the series, maybe a second book with the Forsyth’s might grip me more as I get to know them. I don’t know. I read it and enjoyed it as a read, but didn’t feel I had interacted with the characters like I did with the Buckingham Hotel novels. Sorry Anton.

I loved this book totally different than Antons last series of books.The trials and tribulations of a variety ensemble,family problems and the great finale at The Royal Variety Show and the goings on behind the scenes.
