The Seven Year Slip: The new laugh-out-loud rom-com from the New York Times bestselling author of THE DEAD ROMANTICS

An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise new novel from the bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.
Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.
Six months ago, Clementine West had the worst day of her life. So, she came up with a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, take no risks. And it’s been working.
That is until one day she finds a strange man standing in her kitchen. A man with kind eyes, a crooked smile, and a recipe for the perfect lemon meringue pie. The kind of man that, before everything, she could have fallen for . . .
He’s perfect but for one thing: he lives in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact.
This should be impossible, but Clementine used to love impossible things. And maybe, just maybe, she will again. After all, love is never a matter of time – but a matter of timing.
‘Charming and deliciously romantic, THE SEVEN YEAR SLIP serves up a speculative twist on the idea that we might meet the right person at the wrong time’ Catriona Silvey, author of Meet Me in Another Life

Ashley Postons characters are well written and make you fall in love with them as they are busy falling in love with each other.
This book is different from what I would usually read (just normal romances, this has a bit of magic thrown in) but I read the dead romantics and adored it.

Ashley Poston knows how to write romance that transcends the genre’s cliches and gives so much more than generic meet-cutes, cringe dialogue and infuriating third-act breakups.
I love how Poston uses the romance element of her books to get you hooked on the beautiful romanticising, but at the core of her stories is how family, friends, grief and loss can help you to grow. I love how The Seven Year Slip is both plot and character-driven and gives a pace you find yourself not wanting to stop for the night.
The writing is beautiful and in many places poetic, without being pretentious. And I think if you’re a true, soulmate-believing, kitchen slow dancing, and lover of romance with a bit of magical a realism, this is the one for you.

A nice enough story but I struggled to maintain enough interest to finish it as quickly as I usually woyld. “Nice” but not amazing.

The Seven Year Slip is the second novel from Ashley Poston, the first having been one of my favourite books in years (The Dead Romantics).
The paranormal comes into play again here, but not in the way you might expect.
Clementine inherits an apartment when her beloved Aunt dies suddenly. Her Aunt has always said that the apartment is magical – but Clementine has never believed her. Until now.
When Clementine goes to the apartment, she finds a man, Iwan, staying there – she’s understandably shocked, especially when she realises that her Aunt was right – and the apartment acts as a portal to the past. Seven years in the past, to be precise.
Clementine and Iwan become closer, but how can you fall in love with someone who you may never see again outside of the apartment?
I adore Ashley’s writing. I love it, it’s so warm and witty and it’s right up my street. She’s not afraid to play with paranormal storylines and somehow makes them seem believable, and her characters always have depth to them. Clementine is dealing with a lot of grief after her Aunt’s (self-inflicted, I should mention) death, and she’s at a crossroads in her career.
However.
I couldn’t wrap my head around the time travel element. I am notoriously bad at reading time travel novels, I’ve never ever managed to love one, it’s like my brain eats itself trying to work it out – so if you have a similar issue, just don’t even try. Most of your questions will be answered if you just go with it.
Ashley Poston is fast becoming one of my must-read authors, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
This has echoes of one of my comfort films “Just Like Heaven”, so if you like that, you might enjoy this too.
I received an ARC via Netgalley but I also bought the book.

“I tell them about a girl I fell in love with at the right place but the wrong time.”

I really liked this cute and quirky, will they won’t they, slow burn romance! It’s well written, well paced and playful – and deals with some challenging subjects like death and grief. (Do look up TWs if you feel it necessary)
This book has deconstructed lemon pie, a time travelling apartment, a job in books, and lots of good food – but GOOD GRIEF the sheer amount of times that the love interest’s eye colour was mentioned was LUDICROUS. SHEER LUNACY. Enjoyed the book otherwise! Read way past my bedtime to finish it ????
I was also lucky enough to be gifted @heyashposton first book ‘The Dead Romantics’ last year, and ‘The Seven Year Slip’ is definitely reminiscent of its comfort and light magical realism. It felt familiar. If this sounds like a bit of you – I recommend! ????

1) Always take your shoes off at the door
2) Never fall in love in this apartment
BUT
“…never forget to fall in love whenever you can find it because love is nothing if not a matter of timing.”

Probably wouldnz’t purchase the author again!

Having read her previous book I thought I knew what to expect but I was wrong, The Seven Year Slip was everything and more! Heartbreakingly beautiful, filled with gorgeous writing that made me want to fall in love again. I’ve never read a book that made my eyes fill with tears and then make me laugh and smile at the same time. I can’t wait to see what Ashley does next.

for the wrong reasons. In my view, this is poorly edited, cliched nonsense. Had I not needed to fill some time on a l
