The Story of the Second World War for Children shows the impact of the war on the lives of the people who lived through it, from children evacuated to the countryside, to bombed-out cities and civilians working in munitions’ factories, and the soldiers fighting on land, sea and air. This book also looks at how the war led to major advances in technology, medicine and weaponry.
Feature boxes throughout highlight subjects of particular interest to children, such as life inside a U-boat and tips for a jungle fighter. Maps and cross-section artworks of the insides of famous tanks, aircraft, U-boats, aircraft carriers add extra detail and fascination for children.

Well illustrated. Each double page deals with one aspect of the war. Not too much text. 9 yr old grandson was pleased with it.

A real informative and easy to read book. Purchased as a gift for a 10 year old who has been learning about WWII in history lessons, is great for additional learning.

This book series is fab, my 7 year old loves them. We have this one, and one on WWI and the Titanic. They’re beautifully illustrated and presented with little boxes of information, enabling you to dip in and out of them without being overwhelmed by too much text. I would say these books would be good for anyone in KS2, although younger children will also enjoy them with a bit of adult help – my 5 year old little girl certainly does!

Bought this for my 7 year old grandson he loves you reading the stories to him, as he gets older he will read it himself. When discussing remembrance at school, his teacher was impressed at his knowledge. Very interesting for an adult to read very educating.
