Gripping start. Something happens quickly which made me want to read on.

There characters and plot where simplified and condensed in time but for me, this was a plus. There were no twists and little attention was given to a dead witness.

It’s not Grisham’s best book but overall, I liked it and would recommend.

A decent, easy to read story that was vary enjoyable. Typical good guys versus the bad guys with an interesting ending.

The author accidentally finds out that he is not really happy in his work and that making lots of money is not the answer to a useful life. Originally he wants to right a wrong but makes a major error and antigo -nises his superiors. He is about to lose his job in a rich firm but makes contact with pro bonus workers and suddenly finds his vocation to help homeless people until he finds the ability to assist the poor and to put
them on the right track for better life. This is demonstrated in a very lively manner with a lot of further
accidents and the involvement of other people whose aim in life is to improve the well being of street people.

I am reading my way through Grisham novels (re-reading mostly) and this has to be my favourite so far. His novels pull you in, keep you engaged whilst grappling with real issues. Great read

Ok so perhaps in terms of thrills and spills excitement “The Street Lawyer” is not up there with “The Pelican Brief” or the “The Firm”; nor does it have the complexities of “The Runaway Jury” or the “The Partner”; and of course you know that the street lawyer goods guys will come out on top of the bad guys even before opening the book, but none of that stops John Grisham’s ninth novel from being a first rate read.

This time out Grisham seamlessly blends compassion for Washington DC’s down and outs with contempt for suited and booted big buck law firm partners as rising star law-school grad associate Michael Brock, a man who’s sold his soul and more for a chance at a $1m a year partnership, falls, or perhaps more appropriately jumps [no more spoilers here] from grace and has to navigate the gap between high end corporate law and a make do and mend legal clinic for the homeless as he searches for redemption.

Ok so perhaps it’s unlikely that the Michael Brock’s of this world, and I’ve known a few, ever see the light and make the U-turn from get to give until they fail or burn-out, but if you can forgive the credibility gap John Grisham’s “The Street Lawyer” is a moving thought provoking social commentary [usually at this point the Memsahib interjects and points out it’s just a story and I can’t base fact on fiction] and that’s what makes it a five star book.

I like a book to not only entertain me with plot but to inform me somewhat. The plot here is highly predictable right from the outset and the ending just as predictable but it wasn’t a comfortable read. It was a thinly disguised left-wing political diatribe about the (mainly black) homeless problems in Washington DC and just left me feeling depressed. The wealthy (like millionaire author Grisham) are roundly castigated and our hero reduces himself to poverty to save the homeless. More medieval fairy tale than anything else.

I really enjoyed the plot of the book trying to work out what happens next, I read a lot of crime novels mostly so this was a nice change don’t know which to read next but there’s plenty to choose from
