Luna, Rory and Jodie are supposed to be having the time of their lives. Instead they’re all completely bloody miserable.

Luna thought her first year at uni was perfect – until her relationship broke up, and she realised she’s her old school friends might be ghosting her. She’s never felt so lonely.

Rory’s passion is art (and promoting it on her social media), but she wants to fit in with her sensible family, so she’s signed up to study law. It sounds like the most boring thing on earth.

And as for Jodie – she’s put her all into getting top marks at uni, but she can’t remember the last time she had a night out – or a date. Her life is great on paper, but she’s exhausted. Is this the right path for her after all?

In desperate need of an escape, the girls book themselves on a holiday that’s meant to be perfect for solo travellers. But the idyllic resort of Casa Dorada is actually a digital detox retreat – which means NO PHONES! And that’s not even the biggest disaster waiting for them . . .

Will it be a summer the girls will never forget – or one they’d rather not remember?

A sweet, funny, relatable coming-of-age story from bestselling author Beth Reekles, author of The Kissing Booth – perfect for fans of Beth O’Leary and Emily Henry.

It’s not a gripping bestseller, but is a lovely little easy read. Writing style is warm and familiar. Plus, it has large font, so no straining!
Follows 3 girls’ perspectives as they deal with their life drama, romance and woes. 3 girls book a summer holiday not realising it’s a digital detox retreat. Some funny moments, summer romance, and drama. It’s a nice little read to pass the time in the sun.

The Summer Switch Off by Beth Reekles is a good light summer read about a group of young women at university age (Luna, Rory and Jodie). Each is experiencing their own life crisis and decide to go on a solo traveller’s holiday based in Spain only to be forced into a digital detox in a technology free resort. The paperback book has 480 pages and measures 19.8cm x 12.4cm with a thickness of 3.6cm so is ideal for taking way with you.

The book explores what makes you happy and how important friendship is and with each chapter reflecting each character’s point of view in first person you can easily connect with the character, following their personal growth. There are both funny and sad moments and I thought that the book, although quite simply written, still flowed well. At the time of writing this book is £5 which is a good price for a physical book and I thought that it was funny and largely engaging. Although I wouldn’t consider it a bestseller, it is perfect for by the pool on holiday.

This is definitely aimed at the summer beach or back garden market, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Three friends set off on holiday, and the digital detox retreat they end up with forces them to learn lessons about themselves and other people.

Well written, funny at times, full of emotions at others, this is a generally satisfying read.

The story revolves around three friends – Luna, Rory, and Jodie – each facing their share of challenges and uncertainties. Luna’s breakup and social isolation, Rory’s struggle to balance her passion for art with family expectations, and Jodie’s overwhelming academic success leading to a joyless existence – I found myself sympathizing with their dilemmas.

Reekles’ writing is a perfect blend of humor and heartfelt emotions, making it easy to connect with the characters. I laughed with them during their escapades and cried with them when they confronted their inner demons.

What I loved most about the book was the portrayal of friendship. The bond between Luna, Rory, and Jodie is incredibly genuine, and their support for each other is heartwarming. It reminded me of my own friends and the strength we find in one another during tough times.

As the girls embark on a digital detox retreat, I was curious to see how they would cope without their phones in this tech-dominated world. The mishaps and adventures that follow are entertaining, and I found myself eager to know how they would navigate through it all.

The book addresses themes of self-discovery, resilience, and the importance of pursuing what truly makes you happy. The characters’ personal growth throughout the book is inspiring, and it left me reflecting on my own life choices. While the novel has its lighthearted moments, it also touches on deeper issues that young adults often face, making it a relatable read for readers of all ages.

In conclusion, this is a delightful, heartwarming, and funny summer read that captures the essence of friendship, self-exploration, and the beauty of finding joy in the simplest of things. Beth Reekles has yet again proven her storytelling prowess, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel-good and relatable story.

I found this book an easy read on warmer summer afternoons/evenings. It is easy to pick back up after a break of a few days (it sadly didn’t ‘grip’ me to come back immediately) and found parts to be both funny, and heart-warming.
I love a good multi-pov book, and found the characters and their different stories easy to follow and pick back up. The writing style is good, and easy to follow. I’d give it 3.5/5 stars for a good and easy read.

This was easy breezy reading if a little drawn out in places.
A fun read set at university age range with a real summer vibe to it.
Lots of laugh out loud moments, a good romance and friendships.

Even though this book is over 450 pages, it still feels like a light, easy read. The writing style is simple but enjoyable and the plot is perfect for reading on the beach.

The book follows three young women who all separately book to go on holiday at an all- inclusive, no-phones-allowed resort. We get one chapter from each girl in turn, told in first person. It’s fun getting to know them all, but I do find it a bit confusing when books use alternate first person viewpoints, especially when there’s no difference in style between them to help you remember whose brain you’re in, which is the case here!

That aside, this is a light-hearted novel with definate summer vibes as well as sweet themes of friendship and finding yourself. Perfect for the holidays.
