The T in LGBT: Everything you need to know about being trans

Hey, I’m Jamie, a 29-year-old trans guy from the UK. I’ve been transitioning for 12 years now after realising I was trans (by accident!) at sixteen years old. I knew I was a boy since the age of four, but realised whilst growing up that I was different. It was only in my teens that I found the words to express who I was and what I needed to do. Since then, I’ve been on testosterone for more than a decade – I know, I can’t believe it either – I’ve also had top and bottom surgery and legally changed my sex, so I know a few things about the transitioning process and being trans!
I want to welcome you to The T in LGBT where you can explore and learn about so many topics surrounding gender identity: realising you’re trans, starting hormones, considering surgery, and everything in between. Whether you’re questioning your own identity and are looking for advice on certain stages of transition, or whether you’re wanting to learn about the trans experience to support someone or understand allyship, I hope this book can be your one-stop guide to everything trans related.
And don’t just take my word for it either – this book is packed full of advice, tips, and the personal stories of a range of trans voices, because no one journey is the same.

I tried to order it almost as soon as it was announced. It was delivered more quickly than I thought, about four or five days earlier. Really helpful product. Personally, I would recommend it to people who need support in terms of being transgender (like me) or those who are just interested in learning more.

Well worth a read if you’re trans and even better if you want to learn about trans peoples journeys. I would say that the book is aimed at younger trans people and their friends families and allies. That no bad thing. I am a classic late transitioner and how I wish there had been resources like this in the 60’s and 70’s when I was confused and alone. Obviously Jamie is a trans guy but as I have learnt on my journey transitioning to female, we might be heading in opposite directions but we are definitely shuffling along the same road. Talking to trans guys has give me some real light bulb moments throwing my thoughts and feelings into sharp focus.
Jamie is also well worth following on line and I am happy to be one of his Spuds.

It heartwarming and so so helpful to read about the experience of Jamie and other trans people simply to know that you are not alone. The book is full of lots of definitions and factual and cited information, as well as lots of tips advice, for both allies and trans people! I couldn’t recommend this book enough as a trans person, and is really useful for everyone who wants to learn more – from the trans people themselves!

As a trans person myself this book really reflects struggles and celebrations transgender people experience. The way it is written makes it so easy to read and it is helpful for allies because of the sections written by Shaaba (Jamie’s amazing Wife) which are tips for allies and how to support your trans loved one hence the name of the tips “For the allies”. I also found the drawings/images in the book helpful because you can visually see what Jamie is talking about. I definitely recommend this book for trans people and allies!!

Jamie is an authority on all aspects of transgender experience.
Jamie rightly asserts that all views contrary to his are transphobic and not worthy of consideration.
There is no room for debate on this topic. The jury is in and this book unapologetically speaks the unbreakable, unshakable truth. Feelings make reality. Not physical reality. Man and woman are characteristics with no essential qualities. Your feelings create reality and the modern world is a tool you can use to bend to manipulate physical reality to fit your psychological reality.
To be trans is to be meta-physical.
I found this moving and empowering. Thank you.
