I bought the book as a 80th birthday present for one of my uncles, who is a very keen cricket fan. The book provides details of the main Test Match cricket grounds of the major cricketing competitors: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. There is also a chapter on other cricket stadiums in Bangladesh, the Middle East and Zimbabwe. The map showing where the grounds are in each country was useful and I was pleasantly surprised that there are 9 major grounds in New Zealand. .Although I knew the names of the English cricket grounds listed in the book and where they are located, I was unfamiliar with the grounds in the other countries. When I heard on the radio today, that Australia had beaten India in the Cricket World Cup final, at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, it was useful to look up the details of the ground. I was slightly dis-appointed that Scarborough wasn’t listed in the England section. A friend, whom I worked with, is a cricket fanatic and always took the week off in the summer, to attend the Scarborough Cricket festival, but I digress. The format of the book is well thought out: for each ground there is a good selection of pictures, mainly in colour, and the text provides a brief history of the ground along with Test Match stats, which I’m sure cricket fans will appreciate. There are also details of notable Test matches played at the ground, with more information on scores in a particular match. The book provides an interesting introduction to the international cricket grounds, and I like the format – the combination of photographs and information on each ground. Although I am not a cricket fan, I will give the book four stars, not out.

This is a beautifully produced coffee table book for anyone with an interest in cricket and sports grounds. It’s more about the history of the ground than any architectural features of interest or information in the surrounding area – but even so there’s plenty of interest here.

Printed in India and like so many hardbacks these days supplied without a dustjacket, nevertheless the nice production and full colour photos make this a lovely book to browse through.

Featuring cricket grounds throughout the world, but obviously in cricketing nations, so you find plenty from New Zealand, Australia, India, Bangladesh and of course England. A useful world map identifies each ground by name and reference number so useful to turn to when watching cricket matches live on TV.

Ooh, this is lovely, loads of pictures of cricketers and fantastic cricket grounds. What more could a man wish for? Some of the pictures are truly stunning and the prose is also of a high quality as well, not least the introduction by Michael Atherton. The score cards and match reports from a selection of matches played at each venue is also a nice touch and truly brings the book to life. An excellent present for the cricket lover in your life. I would have given it 5 stars but for the lack of a Chris Woakes photo, my favourite player.

I loved this book from the foreward to the end. As a light cricket fan, some of the stories were familiar to me but just a really enjoyable read.

I think this needs to be in hardback and on your living room table for people to pick up and enjoy.

Instead of being a comprehensive list of cricket grounds from around the world, The Times Cricket Grounds of the World book is a compendium of key matches of historical significance at a selection of grounds from around the world.
Each of the examples cover one or two key, historical matches from each ground, along with the Times articles for that match as reported at the time.
This book is a wonderful dip-in book for those with passion for cricket.

The Times regularly produces nice coffee table books with a sporting theme. I got one last year on World Cup Moments.
It’s a great thing to have around and start conversations – my kids like looking through it and I get to bore them with stories about Italia 90 and so on.
I am not a cricket fan myself, but I got this book for my father-in-law who is a huge cricket fan. He really loves it and is enjoying browsing through a few pages every day and learning about the grounds he’s visited – and hasn’t visited. It’s given him some ideas for cricketing trips to fill up his retirement.

When I saw this, I knew it would make a perfect gift for a cricket fanatic. They enjoy telling me about grounds from around the world and it’s clearly something they want to share. I did think about taking a sneaky look at every page in this book so that I could bring up some facts or information they might not know, but that would spoil their enjoyment. I was surprised that this only covers cricket grounds in a very few countries around the world, but maybe that’s the majority they play cricket as it’s not a worldwide sport. Mostly, it appears to be countries that the Brits invaded over time. The pictures and information are excellent and I’m sure will provide lots of interesting reading when I visit the individual. The history and information is very well researched.
