A smallish hardback book that will make for a handy gift, this is a humorous read that compiles over four hundred witty, funny, sharp, interesting letters that have been featured on the letters page of The Times, put together here by the letters page editor. They are grouped into a number of categories, such as modern manners, food and drink, arts, culture and sport. There are some cartoon illustrations in the book too. An enjoyable ‘dip in and out of’ type read that many will appreciate, to pick up for a moment of humour, cleverness and levity in the day, and enjoyable to pick some to read out to friends or family too.

This little book is full of the random letters submitted to the times. Not all funny, but all entertaining or interesting in their own way. My dad is very old fashioned and likes to have “loo books” like we had back before mobile phones (or reading the back of the shampoo bottle lol) and all these letters are a good collection to have in there for that purpose.

This is a nice collection of letters published in The Times “this year”. I find that last bit a little problematic. as it was published in September and obviously “in the works” for some time before that. Does that mean letters published after, say, the beginning of August, aren’t good or important enough for a compilation of the year’s letters? Or is it more important to get the book out first, before all the similar books come along in the lead up to Christmas?

Despite this gripe, it is an entertaining collection of letters, ideal for dipping in and out of, when you have a few minutes to spare. It is divided into sections by approximate subject matter, but there are still a few where a wee bit more context would be handy.

Overall, I’m quite happy with it. It would be quite suitable for an office “Secret Santa” gift, but it’s probably not the sort of thing you would buy for yourself.

Just the best. The funniest of compendiums. Page 57 is best.

    ???? First impressions
    A lighthearted read

ℹ️ What/When will it be used?
As a gift, perfect for Christmas

✅ What do I like about this product?
It’s an easy read, you can just open any page and read a letter or few. They’re not all humorous, some are serious, thought provoking or lighthearted. It’s hard-backed with a removable cover.

    ❌ What could be better?
    Nothing at this stage.

    ???? Summary…
An easy read and good stocking filler.

I hope you found this review helpful
