Upholsterers can be a strange bunch, not Alex, he’s the kind of guy you want to go to the pub with. That’s why he’s a great teacher. Written in his inimitable style, this book is a valuable resource, handy for complete beginners and perfect for those who forgot to take notes. His thoughts on the electric bread knife made me chuckle.

As a trainee Upholsterer on an AMUSF course, this book is one of the best I have come across. Clear instructions and great pictures. Def one to add to your collection.

Takes you from the tools needed and their uses to several detailed upholstery projects that are well illustrated and explained in detail at all stages. For anyone thinking of taking up upholstery whether professionally or like me as a hobby this book is a must. I have learned so much from it already and I am looking forward to put it into practise soon.

Super book. Clear, precise, both in text and images and a book that takes you through the various stages with ease. One that you can constantly refer to when tackling a variety of projects.

I was taught upholstery by Alex and London Metropolitan and always found his teaching and advice to be excellent. This is a brilliant reference book and I would say an essential part of anyones upholstery library to help you get started or jog one’s memory of how to do something or what materials you should be using for your particular project. Plus there is invaluable and clear information about things such as what sort of springs to use, which always had me baffled along with many other good tips. For the first time in ages a publisher as allowed an experienced and talented upholsterer create a useful book rather than something with lots of pretty pictures, which does not give you all the information necessary to achieve a good finish.

This upholstery guide is really detailed and user friendly. It gives the detail you need to get on with the job. I’ve tried several guides and this is definitely the best!
