Apart from photos, descriptions and floor plans of many of the houses listed, there is a lot about the architectural styles, how Victorian segregation by class and gender affected the design and the engineering problems, such as heating and lighting these vast structures.

I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend who is keen on the subject and she was delighted with the book. Book arrived promptly and well packaged.

Very well written and informative. It is rather depressing reading but that is because of the tastelessness of Victorian building, not the fault of the author.
