£0.90

One dress. Three women. A lifetime of secrets.

Among the cobbled streets of Frome in Somerset, Lou is about to start something new. After losing her mother, she knows it’s time to take a chance and open her own vintage clothes shop.

In upstate New York, Donna receives some news about her family which throws everything she thought she knew into question. The only clue she has to unlock her past is a picture of a yellow dress.

Maggy is in her seventies, newly divorced and all alone in an empty house. Visiting the little vintage shop in Frome, with its rows of beautiful dresses, brings back cherished memories she’d long put aside.

For these three women, only by uncovering the secrets of the yellow dress can they unlock their next chapter…

This had me hooked from the first to the final sentences.
Beautifully written and told, sweeping through both time and continents.
Addressing the truthful angst suffered by young girls at a time when hope and freedom was being promised.
Exploring the hurt and emotional confusion of long held secrets as they unfold.
Offering teeny glimpses into a world long gone. To walk through Biba in It’s heyday…….unforgettable!
The closeness of smaller communities, wherever they might be, is captured confidently.
Completing the book left me feeling happy because it really is a joyous read, and a tad deflated because it was over.
Never read this author’s work before. Definitely recommend.

What a lovely story, I loved the characters, especially Maggy as I’m nearing her age but all the settings and descriptions were amazing. I found myself smiling a lot as Donna and Lou read the letters and the meeting with EM was beautifully written. A lovely, warm, feelgood story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Uplifting & at time tear jerking but a great read.

This book ‘popped up’ on my screen as suggested reading. I liked the title so read the reviews. The content didn’t really appeal to me but the fact it was set in Frome, Somerset tempted me to read it. I have close connections with Frome: I was born and brought up in a nearby village, I attended school and had my first full time job in Frome, my family still live there, and I last visited in June 2022. The novel is character driven. The characters we get to
know are too nice. The baddies, although pivotal to the plot, are peripheral. There are some references to places in the town; I would have liked more. The plotting is good, but predictable. I found the lack of attention to detail annoying e.g. Frome is a long distance from an airport but the characters travel to and fro by taxi; it would cost a fortune.

Loved the book and the characters. Each chapter is about the different people who all connect to the vintage shop in some way. It spans the years and tells the story of a yellow dress and the story behind it. You won’t be disappointed it is a beautiful book.
