The Wedding Guest: A completely twisty and unputdownable psychological thriller
£1.90
I’m trying hard to be the perfect bride as I drift across the beach towards my handsome new husband, Jeremy. I can see him standing tall at the altar with his adorable little daughter Lexi. And I’m certain that today is the beginning of my new life. With Jeremy by my side, my dark past can no longer touch me.
I smile up at my wonderful new husband, but deep down I can’t help but feel sad that there’s nobody at the wedding for me. All my family are long gone. But wouldn’t they be proud if they could see me now?
Everyone claps as we kiss but as soon as I turn to face them, my heart starts beating out of my chest and my eyes go wide in panic. It’s him. Christian. The one person that could destroy everything I’ve worked so hard for.
All I know as I freeze a smile onto my lips is that no one in my new life can know who he is. They can’t discover what he knows about me. Because I’ve found myself the perfect new life – and I’ll do anything to keep it that way.
But as I throw my bouquet I can’t help but wonder how has he found me after all this time? And how far will I go to stop someone who will never let me go?

It’s Emily’s wedding day. She can finally stop looking over her shoulder and enjoy her new start in life. She can’t wait to marry Jeremy and be a step mum to Lexi. But in walks an uninvited guest who will spoil all that is her ex-boyfriend, Christian. Who has a secret to tell from her past, that will change all that in an instant.
But what are the secrets that Emily is hiding that are so bad that Christian blackmails Emily to do his bidding.
Thank you Bookoutre for a copy of the The wedding guest by Kathryn Croft. I am a big fan of this author and I have read all her books. This is slow but suspenseful story of Emily and Christian and secrets they both hold about an incident when Emily was studying at university. Which leads to blackmail and Emily keeping secrets from those she loves. I did enjoy most part of this. But some excerpts of this story, I am not sure why but just made me feel uncomfortable. 3.5 stars from me.

THAT TWIST? OMG! Never in a million years did I see that coming ????????
Imagine you are enjoying your perfect wedding day and then you look up and see your ex standing there. You thought you’d got away with it, but there it is. Your past. And it wants revenge!
Christian and Emily’s relationship was toxic and abusive, and he’s back, with your secret.
Emily can’t tell her new husband Jeremy what Christian wants, as that would mean telling him everything.
I was completely hooked into the suspense from the start and as the book switches timelines, the tension builds as the author drip feeds details of what happened years before. I was intrigued as to what Christian wanted and how he would reveal his hand.
Nothing is what it seems!

On what should be the happiest day of her life Emily is horrified to discover someone she hasn’t seen in years in the wedding congregation. This person could ruin her new life by exposing their past history.
This book is definitely a book of two halves in my opinion. The first half of the book I found myself frustrated with Emily’s naivety and the overuse of the past secret/someone revealing it genre. I found it slow snd quite repetitive. However, I persevered and I’m glad I did as the last quarter definitely picked up pace and I ended up enjoying it to the extent I was surprised by the ending.
3.5 rounded up
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this advanced copy for which I’m under no obligation to leave my review

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping, twisting read and the secrets and betrayals that lie within. From the beginning, we know the bride, Emily, is holding a secret from her new family but we have no idea as to what it is or the devastation it will unleash. Croft then flits between the past and the present to tantalisingly hint and reveal as to the dark secrets that exist between Emily and Christian. When the truth is revealed it is shocking, and it really is! I was completely surprised and thrown by the reveal which does not always happen. I was impressed by the turn of events and the surprising direction it then took things. ‘The Wedding Guest’ has an astonishing plot and the characters are strong too. This has everything you could want in a thrilling read. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance copy.

Firstly, Croft’s writing skills are truly exceptional. I was able to finish reading this book within 24 hours, thanks to the author’s gripping plot that immediately grabbed my attention and kept me engaged throughout. The book is filled with numerous twists that kept me on the edge of my seat, and the mind games played by the author were simply exceptional, adding to the book’s addictive factor.
As for the characters, I found both Emily and Jeremey to be equally detestable, which is actually a good point. It’s always intriguing when an author is able to create complex and flawed characters that elicit such strong emotions from the reader.
While this may not be my favourite book by the author, I would certainly recommend it to those who enjoy thrillers and are looking for a captivating read.

It’s Emily’s wedding day in gorgeous Kefalonia and, just as she thinks she’s about to embark on a new life with handsome Jeremy and his daughter Lexi, she turns to the congregation and spots the one person she thought was out of her life for good, her ex Christian, but how did he know where to find her and is he going to reveal the secrets of her past and ruin her future before it’s even begun?
The Wedding Guest is the latest thriller by this author and, imagine my surprise when I opened this book whilst on the plane to find it begins in the destination I’m heading to! The story is told from the perspective of Emily, with a dual timeline alternating between the past and present. This one, compared to her previous novels, is a slow burner and for a while I wasn’t really sure where the story was heading but then, in true Croft style, she hits you with the twist and suddenly it was a whole new ball game with a plot that was very unexpected and changed my opinion of two of the characters completely. This is an intriguing, at times complex, tale which I urge readers of her previous work to stick with, because the slow start is well worth it for the bumpy ride that follows!
