I can only give a first impression of this Daily Missal because it arrived late on Saturday, and the first daily Mass I’ve followed in it was today’s Monday Mass of the 14th Week in ordinary time. The appearance of the product is attractive . It seems like a real bargain because it’s a hardback copy of the daily Missal and I’m sure that I paid more than the £25 it cost for a soft cover edition in 2001. This is a welcome update of that version because it now obviously contains the most recent versions of prayers like the Confiteor, the Gloria and the Creed as well as the ‘lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof’ prayer. It doesn’t appear to have the daily collect for each Mass but the important stuff is there, the first readings (and second readings where appropriate) as well as the Gospel for each day. All in all I consider that I have received a five star product at a very reasonable price. Definitely five stars for this item.
    Update 08.11.23

Another failing of this product is the fact that the Responsorial Psalm only appears on one page. This wasn’t a problem today or yesterday, but on Thursday last week, when the Psalm ran over onto a second page, there was no response printed on the second page of the psalm. If you are not blessed with a particularly good memory, and the response is not one of the very well known ones, it means you have to keep turning the page back to the response in order to recite it. I find that annoying as I can’t turn the page back quick enough. My last missal which had a soft cover ( and which seems to have vanished into thin air, had the response on both pages. But I still say this is great value for money.

All good, except for the letters. Too small to read.

I bought the Magnificat monthly, at €72 per year. I won’t need to subscribe to it any longer this has everything in it.

Pleased to see that this book contains texts of actual readings in church. So many different versions available online that I was despairing of finding the correct one.
As someone who looks after their books, I was dismayed though to find the missal, though in plastic wrapping, carried black marks in a few places, one right across the pages (photos attached). Although the book had been reduced in price, still I saw no mention of it being sub-standard, which it definitely is. No bookshop would market this other than as a reject. Since this is a book I purchased for use rather than for display or as a gift, I won’t make a fuss, but it’s the reason I’m only giving it three stars.

A weekday missal is pretty much what it says and I went for the cheapest version available. I don’t understand what the “Harry Styles” description is all about … it’s produced by Harper Collins and has a “Revised 2012” date so has all the 2011 changes in it. It came with a cellophane seal around it and was in good condition.

I would point out that this version, and the CTS version (I got the Leather bound one), are a bit different …. the CTS has some sections in Latin as well as English and the Proper of Saints and all the different Prefaces and Eucharistic Prayers are in different places. In truth I prefer the layout of this one to the CTS but the CTS leather one has gilt edged pages and feels nicer in the hand (but it’s a lot more expensive too)

    Perfectly well satisfied. Thank you.

Like a lot of people, I cannot get to daily mass every day, but I do tend to go on favourite Saint’s days and take time off especially to do this. I have discovered that at least two of the days are completely and totally different to the actual mass performed by the priest on that same day – leaving me completely bewildered and wondering if I had missed something somewhere?! In fact I hadn’t missed anything, and there were no ‘alternative’ versions as there sometimes are. For the most part, the mass readings are correct on the days I have managed to go, it’s just the two I have come across which were different. which leads me to wonder, if two days are incorrect, then how many more are wrong? I cannot sell it on now knowing it is not quite right, so I am stuck with a book I am slightly nervous of using. I am going to save up and get the CTS weekday missal – which is what I should have done in the first place. Sorry, I ‘think’ I can remember the two days which are in error, but I don’t want to mention them as I didn’t make a written note of them at the time, so I cannot commit to giving the right information to you all. If I can work it out for sure, I will add a note later.

On the plus side, a nice lot of ribbon bookmarks, but sometimes I feel it could do with more. All-in-all, an ok missal with odd mistakes 🙁

When the new translation of the Mass was introduced last December, I was given a Christmas present of a new Sunday Missal. However, this left me with the old translation on weekdays. I was somewhat loath to commit myself to the New Daily Missal as it would duplicate with the Sunday Missal and seemed very big indeed. I therefore ordered the new Weekday Missal, published by Collins. This was due for publication at the end of January.

At the end of January I was told it would not be available till April, and in April, publication was delayed till the end of June. However, at the end of June it finally arrived and I am delighted with it. It follows the same format as my previous Missal so it is easy for me to use. The single sequence of saints’ days, without the special British and Irish ones being relegated to an appendix, is a significant improvement. It does not include the parallel Latin texts as in the CTS version, but personally, I don’t miss that; you spend less time turning the pages during the Mass. I have needed to add a few extra markers to find my way through the Eucharistic Prayers but that is a small concession. It is still a large book and I hope the binding will last but I am certainly happy to have only 2,400 pages rather than 3,400. All in all I recommend this Weekday Missal to anyone who likes to follow the Mass during the week.
