An invitation to supper at Angela Hartnett’s house is a real treat. Nestled in the heart of London’s vibrant East End, you know you’re going to get delicious food, great company and a relaxed atmosphere that is as far removed from the high-octane stress of a professional kitchen as it is from the awkward social anxiety that many of us face when hosting a dinner.
Angela knows the secrets to throwing the most relaxed and enjoyable dinners for friends and family – sometimes mad, but always magical evenings that people talk about for months afterwards – and in this book she’s going to share them. Recipes include:
Potato and Wild Garlic Soup
Braised Oxtail
Whole Trout with Almond and Herb Stuffing
Sunday Night Cupboard Spaghetti
Queen of Puddings
Great flavours and simple recipes abound in these pages, each one a joy to cook and eat, from satisfying one-pot dishes and comforting risottos to perfect party food and bakes to feed a hungry crowd.
Collected in these pages are over 80 recipes from one of Britain’s most-loved chefs, as well as time saving tips and cheats that will take the stress out of hosting and allow you to enjoy your dinner parties without breaking a sweat. The only essential ingredients are friends and family . and lots of them.

The great thing about this excellent cook book is the honesty. There are some really laugh out loud moments where AH tells stories against herself about her cookery mishaps but this is a selection of great menus that everyone can cook. The illustrations are great and so are the recipes. A keeper

Far too simplistic..a book for novice cooks.

I own around 60 cookbooks and cook from them regularly. This is hands down one of the best. Those who say it is simplistic have missed the point of the book. It is a collection of recipes for busy people who want to entertain on the weekend. That’s me, and that’s how I have used the book. If you’re having, like me, 18 people round on the weekend, you want something delicious, foolproof, and simple. This book delivers on all 3 fronts. I’ve not had a single failure from this book, it’s all great ingredients, being generous, simple food done well. If that appeals, by it!

Food and family around the table. These are the memories we covet when we look back on our lives, the fun and laughter disagreements and rows the making up and loving along with the culinary disasters and triumphs, the dishes that turn into family classics you’ll cook again and again. This is the food within this book. You’ll expect an Italian twist running through everything, even when it’s not strictly an Italian dish. Standouts; Osso buco, lots of fantastic soup and salad, killer roast lamb, the best peppers and three sublime spaghetti dishes.

Very rarely do I flick through a recipe book and want to make every recipe.
The food is as delightfully warming and wholesome as the story behind its inception – weekend dinners with special friends

I am really disappointed and wish I had had a look through before I purchased it. I expected much more. Too few main courses. A couple of nice desserts but that is it. It will go to the charity shop. What a shame.!
