*FOREWORD BY BEN STOKES*

Hallo – I’m Mark Wood. As an England and Durham cricketer who was born, raised and refined in Ashington, Northumberland, my life has been quite unique. Over the course of my career so far, I’ve won an Ashes and a World Cup in an international career that at the time of writing is going on seven years and counting.

Being a fast bowler like myself is up there with the toughest of all sporting pursuits, like being Tyson Fury’s punchbag or working behind the bar during the darts at Ally Pally.

Being a cricketer? There’s nothing like it. And doing it for England? Well, I’m lucky to call it a profession. There’s been a lot of hard work along the way. Plenty of sacrifices and pain to accompany the good times that make them all worthwhile.

I’ve been everywhere, from Barbados to Brisbane, Chester-le-Street to Chennai, waiting rooms to operating tables. I’ve played in some of the most exotic locations in the world and eaten margherita pizzas in every single one of them.

To be honest, it’s amazing I’ve waited this long to bring out my own self-help book.

What is undoubtably a good story about a very popular and talented player.
The book was spoilt for me by the ‘jokes’ that were shoe horned in to let us know what a wacky maverick Mark Wood is.
Very irritating and ruined what must be a remarkable story.
It became so irritating I gave up after a few chapters. Such a shame

Took a bit of getting into but as soon as I could hear “his voice” reading it I was loving it ! Fascinating and humble in equal measure it’s a genuinely really good read ! Mxx

For those potentially troubled by the Ashington/Northumbrian accent, I won’t say Geordie accent! He does a great phrase breakdown at the beginning. If you are a cricket lover, you must read this. The bloke you listen on the TV after a game is this bloke, as he says you are where you come from. Great sense of humour.

I recently finished this book and did enjoy it. The format is really good and it’s definitely different from other cricket books. I can only give it 4 stars because of the way it’s written. In staying true to Mark Wood’s roots it is written how he talks with North Eastern colloquialisms. He uses the word us instead of me for example which can be confusing if he’s talking about himself or more than one person.

Told him it’s a fun read…loved the style [but the text to voice option is a bit weird…he laughed]

What an absolutely beautiful book by an absolutely lovely human. The gentle, funny, humble character that he is shines out of the pages and felt like a tonic every time I picked it up. So interesting to hear him talk about the behind the scenes stuff you wouldn’t usually know about and fantastic snippets from his family and colleagues give the book such a warm feel. It’s very honest, sometimes humorous but always incredibly engaging and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If more people in the world were like Woody it would undoubtedly be a kinder and happier place.

Bought this book as a present at Christmas. From the conversation I have had with the recipient it was a most entertaining and warmhearted read and he was delighted to receive it as a Christmas present.
