Celebrate the first decade of James Cameron’s Avatar and the beginnings of an epic cinematic journey.

Delve into the majestic world of Pandora and discover the incredible wealth of creativity that led this story to become the highest-grossing film of all time and the winner of three Academy Awards.

The World of Avatar celebrates, explores, and explains the spectacular world of Pandora-its extraordinary geology, flora and fauna, and the customs and beliefs of its people, the mysterious Na’vi. The book uniquely covers key content from all aspects of the burgeoning franchise. It combines original movie stills and artwork with stunning imagery from Cirque du Soleil’s Avatar-inspired show Toruk: The First Flight; and Disney World’s Pandora-The World of Avatar.

With a foreword by Avatar star Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), and an introduction by producer Jon Landau, The World of Avatar concludes with a “sneak peek” of a new Avatar era, fuelling excitement for the long-awaited release of Avatar 2 in December 2022.

In contrast to the DK book on Wakanda, this is a genuinely informative tome, full of well-rendered illustrations and text about the locations, creatures, tech and lore of Pandora. Perhaps a little pricey at £14.99, but a real pleasure to browse.

Since I liked the first movie and planning on seeing the second one, I had to get this book to see how in depth the worldbuilding went to such degrees

For my liking it could go deeper but for those who don’t like excessive details and bite sized information then this is perfect for you

Personally it helped me sum up what elements I needed to incorporate with my own fiction but not only that, the art work of it all is a creator’s delight

As a concept artist interested in world-building, I found this book massively helpful as it talks about the composition of the world of Avatar, including its flora, fauna and inhabitants. Although disappointingly, it does not include concept art, it explains the science behind the ecosystems and the life within them almost as if it is an encyclopedia more than an art book. It also includes an in-depth section on the culture of the Na’vi, which I found equally inspiring. Overall, the only downside of the book is the lack of concept art which I feel is made up for with in-depth explanations of the world and its inhabitants.

It’s very cool to have an updated visual exploration book to the first film

I bought this feeling super excited about exploring the world of Pandora, but what is really disappointing about this book is their mostly screenshots from the movie, or cutouts from the movie. Their is a couple unseen photos but nothing special beside a couple new animals. That’s it. It was really disappointing as a fan of the movie and world, I expected more conceptual art of the creatures, along with a bit more information, rather than just a little paragraph and that is all. Thankfully it isn’t that expensive, so it won’t break the bank in terms of collectible books, but I wouldn’t recommend it, you’ll find all the information you need on a Wiki that is in this book, not like what you expect, with exclusive never before seen artwork, or upcoming creatures (although their is one or two, but not many), all the flora and fauna life, how they live etc. You get very little. Can’t say how disappointed I am in this as a guide to this world, as a ”visual exploration”, it really doesn’t live up to that expectation. More like ”screenshots exploration”.
