Therapeutic Parenting Essentials: Moving from Trauma to Trust (Therapeutic Parenting Books)
£16.10
All families of children affected by trauma are on a journey, and this book will help to guide you and your family on your journey from trauma to trust.
Sarah Naish shares her own experiences of adopting five siblings. She describes how to use therapeutic parenting – a deeply nurturing parenting style – to overcome common challenges when raising children who have experienced trauma. The book describes a series of difficult episodes for her family, exploring both parent’s and child’s experiences of the same events – with the child’s experience written by a former fostered child – and in doing so reveals the very good reasons why traumatized children behave as they do. The book explores the misunderstandings that grow between parents and their children, and provides comfort to the reader – you are not the only family going through this!
Full of insights from a family and others who have really been there, this book gives you advice and strategies to help you and your family thrive.

Excellent book written by someone who has brought up five adopted children and gone through pretty much everything that adopting parents go through and more.
Although the book has 50 chapters, they are relatively short so you don’t fell that you hare having to ‘plough on’ to get to the end.
So many chapters are necessary because of the huge amount of issues that adopters face.
This book should be given out by Social Services to all adopting parents.

Wow, I didn’t expect when I sat down to read this that I would be getting such a gripping story as well! Amazing story, amazing insight into what a traumatised child might be thinking, novel and engaging layout of each chapter. This has been the most educational thing I have read so far for my home study.

A must have book for anyone parenting or considering parenting a child with a trauma background. This book gives the view from both the parent and the childs viewpoint on their journey from the very beginning up to present day. Each entry is followed with useful strategies to help with each situation. It gives understandable, practical advice on day to day issues and how to overcome them while offering a greater understanding of the behaviour presented. Simply brilliant!
