I thought for grandson learning drums and being a huge Tom Gates fan this would be an ideal Xmas present! However so disappointed not to be able to find
I can’t find the Tom Gates music app anywhere!! . However the links to Rock School are great- RockSchool is great for those new to music and learning an instrument.

Grandsons favourite author. Loved this book as its a different format , having music and songs inside that he can play on recorder or keyboard etc…

My grandson loves these books

I bought this for my grandson who loves Tom Gates, but while it is a good idea there are some massive flaws, especially in the Vocals and Recorder sections. The fingerings given for F on the recorder, whilst correct, is not helpful as it is for F natural. whilst many of the Fs are F sharps, the fingering of which is not given, nor that of C#.
The main problem, however, is the vocal line. Many, especially The School Dinner Blues, are far too high to be sung by any children, with the possible exception of choristers from our top cathedral choirs. I have taught primary school choirs for over 30 years and none would have managed top As and Bs. They COULD be sung down an octave but would then have used G and A below middle C which are too low.
With some adaptations this is a perfectly usable book, but it isn’t straight forward and you need somebody with a good musical knowledge to help to overcome the difficulties. The problem with buying through the Internet is that you take a risk as to its suitability. If you are reasonably musical you will probably have a lot of fun with this, but it is not for the uninitiated.

Lovely gift although didn’t realise it was a proper music book with music notes

My Son (age 9) really likes this book, he plays a brass instrument and the recorder score is perfect for him.
However as a mum I was disappointed that quite a thick book only has 6 songs in it (repeated several times for different instruments). The words to the songs are only in the ‘vocals’ section too.
Finally on page 69 the notes for the recorder give the wrong note names for the fingering, and they aren’t related to the musical score on the next page so it’s no good unless you can already read music.
