Useful for designing and taking copies from. From the same series as “printers ornaments” excellent line drawn black and white drawings.

A lot of good images that can be used as templates. Really pleased with it and am sure it will soon be well thumbed with use. My Father-in-Law was even impressed with it an may be borrowing it for designs for his leather crafting.

I would say that this is mainly a great book for designers due to the artwork solely being of black and white content, and also being quite abstract. The decorative panel borders that surround the paintings, or the unique art nouveau style lettering comes to mind when I refer to the abstract feeling of the designs on offer.

I’ve found it especially helpful as an aide in working on my own ideas and designs, especially on my current project of redesigning certain elements of my local town of Bushmills through the Brighter Bushmills Group. With over 577 different illustrations, there’s certainly a lot to inspire the designer and art lover alike. It’s also a great book for finding out about new artists that you may not have been familiar with. For me, Fred H Ball comes to mind. I felt that his style was very similar to Mucha’s, especially the menu designs for restaurants.

It’s probably possible to trace these designs, I have not done so personally, to add something art nouveau to your projects, be they for school, or for something more professional, but I am of the belief that really if one were to incorporate some of the design elements into their own work, it would be more advisable to scan in the particular design, print it out at a reasonable size suitable to you and work on it through using a lightbox. Why you may ask? The book is, at a glance anyway, roughly about A4 in size (or 8.5 x 11 inches) but there are virtually no full page designs. Instead you are more like to find anywhere between 4 and 8 designs to a page, so the images are small in that sense.

I can’t recommend the book enough to you if you’re a lover of art nouveau and plan to use that style in your work, because it’s a great source of inspiration, especially in times when the old brain just can’t get into gear at the start of the artistic work day.
