Trinity College London Piano Exam Pieces Plus Exercises From 2021: Grade 7

£11.40

This book contains a selection of 12 pieces for the Trinity Piano Grade 7 exam, carefully chosen, graded and edited by a panel of experts, along with informative performance notes to help students and teachers get the most out of the repertoire. It also includes the exercises required for the exam, which have been newly composed for the syllabus. Encompassing a wide range of styles and genres at every grade and with more pieces in each book than ever before, this progressive series provides a wealth of engaging repertoire for any pianist. An extended edition of this book is also available. This includes everything in this book along with the scales and arpeggios for the grade, an ebook of nine extra pieces (with performance notes) and downloadable audio for all 21 pieces.

Note: Effective immediately, Trinity’s Piano 2021-2023 Exam Pieces syllabus books will no longer operate with an end date, and the pieces they contain will remain listed in the syllabus indefinitely. Any planned changes, or removal of pieces listed in the syllabus will be messaged out with a one-year overlap period. Trinity will be gradually amending the covers on these books upon reprint to ‘from 2021’, however there are books with the previous date range. In those cases, the change to syllabus arrangements overrides the dates printed on the cover of the book. Trinity’s 2021 Piano books will be indefinitely valid alongside the new 2023 Piano books.

If you or your family have been on the Trinity pathway for any length of time, you don’t need me to espouse the merits of it compared to ABRSM or similar.

What I would say is the pieces are typically excellent, with the usual nice mix of styles.

Where I think Trinity have shot themselves in the foot however, is that they’ve done away with the accompanying CD, opting instead for downloadable music samples. This time, we were watching YouTube clips of the music from the book; while it was played beautifully, it’s another example of the digital world muscling in on our time AWAY from all that.

I would prefer to pay extra for the accompanying CD (as pricey as this extended book already was).

Paid extra for the additional downloads without realising these were not new pieces but from the last syllabus. It does say somewhere in the small print but was hoping for all new pieces as I have the old syllabus.

My daughter is doing grade 7 and likes the pieces in the book, especially Prelude which is the easiest to learn.

As a professional pianist and piano teacher, these publications are an important necessity within my regular teaching. As such, they are invaluable, and I am grateful and impressed by the speedy delivery of this examination music by Amazon.
